77 pc public varsity teachers have no housing facilities

About 77 percent public university teachers have no housing facilities, according to the 42nd Annual Report published by the University Grants Commission (UGC) recently.
The report says that 2,958 teachers out of 12,748 are enjoying residential services. It reflects negative impact on the academic activities of 37 universities.  
Of them, it is zero percent at the residential facilities at National University, Islamic Arabic University, Maulana Bhashani Science and Technology University, Pabna Science and Technology University, Barisal University, Rangamati Science and Technology University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University  and Bangladesh Univeristy of Professionals.
13 percent officials and 14 percent employees only are amusing residential facilities, the report said.
A total of 842 teachers out of 2,306 are getting residential facilities at Dhaka University, 228 teachers out of 1,230 at Rajshahi University, 254 teachers out of 605 at Bangladesh Agricultural University, 285 teachers out of 660 at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), 147 teachers out of 1,180 at Chittagong University, 230 teachers out of 736 at Jahangirnagar University, 67 teachers out of 359 at Islamic University, 14 teachers out of 488 at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, 15 teachers out of 396 at Khulna University, Five teachers out of 458 at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, 14 teachers out of 177 at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University,
86 teachers out of 267 at Hazi Danesh Science and Technology University, 100 teachers out of 172 at Patuakhali Science and Technology University, 94 teachers out of 229 at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, 97 teachers out of 207 at Chittagong Engineering and Technology University, 39 teachers out of 221 at Rajshahi Engineering and Technology University, 76 teachers out of 282 at Khulna Engineering and Technology University, 85 teachers out of 202 at Dhaka Engineering and Technology University, 41 teachers out of 156 at Noakhali Science and Technology University, Four teachers out of 555 at Jagannath University, 34 teachers out of 159 at Comilla University, 23 teachers out of 171 at Jatiya Kabi Nazrul Islam University, 19 teachers out of 108 at Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, 32 teachers out of 199 at Sylhet Agricultural University, 30 teachers out of 113 at Jessore Science and Technology University, 10 teachers out of 132 at Begum Rokeya University, 41 teachers out of 67 at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University and 31 teachers out of 98 at Bangladesh Textile University.
UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan told The New Nation that the Commission has been working to mitigate the residential problems of teachers, officials and employees.
 "I was a teacher. I know how does a teacher feel when he/she has no housing facility?" he said.
