M M Jasim :
The government is going to change the non-government teachers' appointment registration examination system to ease the sufferings of the applicants.
Meanwhile, the Non-Government Teachers Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA) has decided not to take teachers' appointment examination every year. It also decided 60 as pass marks and inclusion of viva voce in the exam process.
The NTRCA has taken the decisions in a board meeting recently and will submit those recommendations to the Education Ministry for execution.
"We have taken many decisions in a board meeting to change the teachers' appointment examination system. We will send those to the authorities concerned for the final approval. We are waiting for the positive response," said NTRCA Chairman A M M Azhar.
The NTRCA officials said the yearly examination system for teachers' appointment has created complexity and also session jam.
They said even after securing pass marks at least 90 per cent applicants did not get job in 12 years. The jobless applicants did not apply for another job and now they are in real problem.
The NTRCA has started taking of the non-government teachers' appointment registration examination since 2005. A total of 12 examinations have so far been taken and 535,963 applicants passed the examinations. But only 64,322 got job.
Amid widespread allegation against the school and college managing committees regarding teachers' appointment, the government last year took the decision to appoint teachers by the NTRCA.  A total of 249,502 candidates applied for only 14,669 vacant posts in 6,470 educational institutions. On November 9, the NTRCA published the results with pass of 12,619 applicants.  Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid asked the NTRCA for the appointment of pass applicants within one month after the publication of the results.
But a good number of applicants are yet to join their selected schools and colleges across the country due to the reason best known to the NTRCA.  There were also some mistakes in the appointment process as the NTRCA officials allegedly selected male candidates in female quota through underhand dealings. Even the NTRCA did not follow the direction of the Education Ministry in this regard.
