The Gopalganj rickshaw van driver, who carried Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina around her ancestral village, will be getting a job in the air force, local Awami League leaders said.
On Friday, Hasina went around her ancestral village at Gopalganj's Tungipara with her nephew Radwan Mujib Siddiq Bobby. A photo sent by the Press Information Department (PID) showed her face beaming with joy holding Bobby's son in her arms. Bobby's wife and daughter were also seen on the rickshaw van driven by Imam Sheikh. On Sunday, a delegation from the Jessore Air Force base headed by Squadron Leader Harun-ur-Rashid went to Imam's home at Sardarpara Village in Tungipara to give him the good news.
They also handed over Tk 40,000 for Imam's ailing father's treatment and for renovating his home.
"I am a happy and a lucky man," is how Imam reacted.
Tungipara Upazila Chairman Gazi Gulam Mustafa and Tungipara Press Club President BM Golam Quader were also present. "The air force officers said they are recruiting Imam Sheikh  but his job role depending on his educational qualifications will be decided later," Quader later told bdnews24.com.
He added the air force officers informed them that the rickshaw van will be kept in a museum. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina takes a tour of her village home in Gopalganj on a rickshaw van with nephew Radwan Mujib Siddiq, his wife and children.
