Youth urged to enroll them in Green activities

Prime Minister's Advisor on Energy Affairs Tawfiq-e- Elahi Chowdhury on Wednesday has urged young generation to enroll themselves in green activities for building a greener Bangladesh.
 "As we know that the energy resources are limited on the surface, we should move to use the alternative or renewable energy that will help us develop a sustainable environment. The guardians and educational institutes should inspire the young generation about the renewable energy and enroll them in green campaign," Tawfiq-e-Elahi said while addressing the inaugural session of a four-day conference on renewable energy at Dhaka University on Wednesday.
Institute of Energy, DU and Bangladesh Solar Energy Society jointly organized the four-day renewable energy conference titled "National Renewable Energy and Green Expo -2017" at the university central playground.
SREDA Chairman Md Anwarul Islam Sikder, BIFFL Executive Director Formanul Islam and Institute of Engineers Bangladesh President Md Kabir Ahmed Bhuiyan, GreenTech Foundation Bangladesh Chairman Muhammad Abdul Mazid, Energy Revolution Germany Founder Matthias Gelber, among others, were present. DU Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique presided over the function. DU Institute of Energy Director Prof. Saiful Huque said, the conference this year will focus on developing a long term planning for renewable energy in Bangladesh.
BSES President Muhammad Ibrahim said the National Campaign on Creating Young Energy Ambassadors in educational institutes from the conference will engage young generation in the green activities as they can prepare themselves as environment-friendly.
In the afternoon, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed and Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sayeed Khokon attended two different sessions as chief guests.
About the government achievement in energy sector, Tofail Ahmed said, the government under leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has covered 68 per cent dwellers and will cover cent per population with uninterrupted electricity by 2021.  "There is large scale of electricity needed for the industrial areas as well as for the apparel industry specially. We should focus on the renewable energy on electricity production to boost the productivity," the minister said. DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon said, about 200 metric ton waste are produced daily from the city area which can be converted to energy for it can add a large scale unites of electricity in national grid.
There will develop a 'waste-based power plant in Keraniganj, on the outskirt of the capital which is now at measurement stage, he said.
