The government is going to recruit about 10,000 teachers soon for pre-primary schools across the country with a view to mitigating the teachers' The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education will choose the teachers from among those who had applied for the post of 'assistant teacher' in the pre-primary schools under the third Primary Education Development Programme (PEDP-3) in December 2014.
The Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) sources said there were around 25,000 vacant posts at the primary level. The Ministry will appoint 17,000 panel and pool teachers, who qualified as assistant teachers of the government primary schools in 2012.
The appointment of pool teachers was pending due to legal complications for almost five years. Now, their appointment is going on. After it, DPE would start the appointment of the assistant teachers.
The DPE ordered the District and Upazila Education Officers to collect information about the vacant posts after the appointment of the pool teachers.
The DPE sources said since there are no legal barriers now in recruiting teachers, the DPE would start recruiting them from among the 11 lakh candidates, who had applied in response to the advertisement posted on December 9, 2014.
The online application started at 10.30am on December 13, 2014, and concluded at 11.49pm on January 12, 2015. Both male and female candidates from 61 districts, except Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban, had applied for the posts.
Male candidates needed second division or an equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA) in an Honours or an equivalent Bachelor's degree from any recognised university as the minimum educational qualification. Female candidates needed a second division or an equivalent GPA in the Higher Secondary Certificate examination or in an Honours or an equivalent Bachelor degree.
The age limit for general candidates was 18 to 30, while it was 32 years for the children of freedom fighters and disabled persons.
Law Officer of the Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) ABM Assadul Alam said, "The Ministry has no legal barrier to appoint assistant teachers for pre-primary schools. It will take at least one month to complete the necessary task."
Additional Director General of the DPE Sultan Mahmud said, "The Ministry has been working to appoint panel and pool teachers now. The process would be completed by March 20 though we have time till March 30. After that, we will see how many posts remain vacant."
"Many panel and pool teachers would not take the job, as some of them have already joined other jobs or for other reasons. Then, we will go for new recruitment," he said.
