It was great a scene to watch as Tiger captain Mushfiqur Rahim and Lion's skipper Ranganath Herath share the coveted Joy Bangla Ttrophy after Bangladesh recorded a historic four wickets win over Sri Lanka in the 2nd and final Test match at Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
It was an icing on a cake for Bangladesh, not only they winning their 100th Test match but also squaring the two- match series. After early hiccup when Souyma Sarker committed hara-kiri and one down batsman Imrul Kayes succumb to the pressure as he was dismissed in the very first ball he faced for a duck, one thought Herath and Co. will polished off the tail to shatter the dream of a victory for Tigers in their 100th Test.
But dependable Tamim Iqbal and Sabbir Ahmed stopped the rot with defiant batting and again it started looking as if skipper Mushfiq might not get chance to bat again in this landmark Test.
Lankan bowlers struck back again getting the prized scalp of Tamim Iqbal, Sabbir and Shakib Al Hasan. Then all of a sudden things started to look little bit gloomy for Tigers but Mushfiq hung on under pressure to steer Bangladesh home with debutant Mosaddek Hossain compiling a valuable 13 runs.
Tiger's real hero in the second essay was none other than was Tamim, though, who had laid a rock-solid foundation with a vital half-century - one of his best Test innings. He showed assured footwork against spin: he was right forward to blunt full balls or right back to deal with the short balls.
He then opened up with crunching drives, and lofts. One such loft landed on the second floor of a corporate box on the second floor.
Sabbir Rahman, picked over Mahmudullah, showed excellent judgment as well in a century stand with Tamim. The two set batsmen exited in quick succession, but Mushfiq helped Bangladesh to recover from the late hiccups.
In the end It was great moment for Bangladesh cricket who drew the series Test series by their merit not with the help of weather and also recording their first ever Test victory over Sri Lanka. Earlier they have beaten rock bottom Zimbabwe and weakened West Indies in Test but beating Sri Lanka is itself an achievement.
