Early marriage foiled in Habiganj
HABIGANJ: Bahubal Model Thana police foiled an early marriage at Jangalia village under Bahubal upazila of the district on Thursday  morning. The marriage of schoolgirl Tania, 15, daughter of Faruk Miah of the village, was scheduled to be solemnized on Thursday. Officer-in-Charge of Bahubal Thana M Moniruzzaman being informed about the child marriage rushed to the residence of Tania and stopped the early marriage, said UNO Jasim Uddin.  Tania is a student of class ten of a secondary school. Later, the OC successfully convinced the parents of the bride and the bridegroom to refrain from child marriage. He also briefed them about the bad effects of early marriage.
Vocational skills training begins
GAIBANDHA: A two-month vocational skills training began at the Technical Training Centre (TTC) at Farazipar here on Tuesday amid much enthusiasm to the trainees. RDRS Bangladesh, a reputed NGO, arranged the training with the technical support of Practical Action Bangladesh (PAB) under the project of Securing Employment and Economic Development around Jute Textile and Light Engineering Sector in North-West Bangladesh funded by European Union. Additional superintendent of police (ASP) M. Abdullah Al Faruk formally inaugurated the training as the chief guest while principal of TTC M. Atiqur Rahman presided over the function. The inaugural ceremony was also addressed, among others, by vocational education and job placement specialist of PAB, Rangpur regional office Rafiqul Islam, market development and value chain specialist Saibal Barua, district coordinator (light engineering) of RDRS Bangladesh Uzzal Kumar Kar, district coordinator (training and knowledge management), Rangpur Rakibul Bahar, district coordinator (marketing), Lalmonirhat Gausul Azam, district coordinator (agriculture and jute), Kurigram Aminul Islam and instructors of TTC M. Amir Hossain and Ibrahim, reports BSS.

VAT registration fair begins
A 14-day fair to motivate the citizens to register for paying value added tax began in Sylhet on Wednesday.Local lawmaker of Sylhet-3 Constitution Mahmud Us Samad Chowdhury inaugurated the fair as chief guest at the Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate's divisional headquarters at Mehndibag in the city in the morning. Speakers at the programme said that everyone in Bangladesh was paying the VAT each time they purchased something and that no one was out of the VAT network.So, every citizen was contributing to the overall development of the country through paying the VAT, they observed. They also called upon concerned officials to be more sincere in introducing and familiarising the VAT payment process amongst tax payers and to provide them with proper assistance in this regard.
District level Nazrul Conference held in Narsingdi
NARSINGDI:  A discussion meeting, prize distribution and cultural ceremony on the occasion of district level Nazrul conference were held at local Shilpakala Academy here on Monday. Nazrul Institute and District Administration Jointly organized the event. Chairman of Nazrul Institute Trustee Board Professor Emeritus Dr Rafiqul Islam attended the ceremony as the chief guest. Executive Director (Additional Secretary) of Nazrul Institute Mohammad Abdur Razzak and Police Super of Narsingdi Amena Begum were present as special guests. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr. Shubash Chandra Biswas presided over the ceremony, reports BSS.
