Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina leaves here for Riyadh on Saturday night on a four-day official visit to Saudi Arabia to attend the Arab Islamic American Summit.
A VVIP flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the Prime Minister and her entourage will take off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 8pm. The flight is scheduled to reach King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital at 11:15 pm local time the same day.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Golam Moshi will receive Sheikh Hasina at the airport.
From the airport, a ceremonial motorcade will escort her to Movenpick Hotel Riyadh where she will stay for two days. "The Prime Minister is joining the summit at the invitation of Saudi King and Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud," PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told UNB.
On May 11, Saudi Minister for Culture and Information Dr Awad Bin-Saleh Al-Awad handed over the invitation letter of the Saudi King to the Prime Minister at Ganobhaban.
The summit, which will be attended by US President Donald Trump and leaders of the member countries of the 41-nation Islamic Military Alliance to Fight Terrorism (IMAFT), is expected to cover issues of counter-terrorism and violent extremism. During the visit, the Prime Minister will also perform holy Umrah at the Haram Sharif in Makkah and offer ziarat at Rawza Mubarak of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) in Medina.
On May 21, the Prime Minister will attend the summit to be held at King Abdulaziz International Conference Centre in Riyadh. She will also join the inauguration of "Global Centre for Combating Extremist Thought" and attend the lunch banquet to be hosted by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.
On May 22, Hasina will leave Riyadh for Medina by air to offer ziarat at the Rawza Mubarak of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). She will leave Medina for Jeddah in the afternoon on May 22. On arrival at King Abdulaziz International Airport, she will go to Makkah to perform holy Umrah at the Haram Sharif.
The Prime Minister will return home on May 23.
US President Donald Trump as well as 56 Arab and Muslim leaders will join the summit to discuss combating extremism and cracking down on illicit financing under the summit slogan "Together We Prevail".
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to put forward a number of proposals in the summit on how to work together to face the global challenges of terrorism and militancy. She will also convey Bangladesh's position to send troops to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia if the country's sovereignty and the security of its two Holy Mosques are threatened. Addressing a press briefing on Thursday, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali said Bangladesh will extend necessary support and troops, if requested, considering people's respect, love and devotion for the two mosques-Al-Masjid al-Haram (the Sacred Mosque) in Makkah and Al-Masjid an-Nabawi (the Prophet's Mosque) in Madina. He said the visit will play an important role in improving relations with participating Muslim countries.
