Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal

A memorial meeting on former General Secretary of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), Zafar Sajjad Khichchu organised by JSD was held at the Shaheed Taher Memorial auditorium at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city on Sunday. Information Minister and President of JSD Hasanul Haq Inu, MP was present as the chief guest. While speaking Inu said that BNP leader Khaleda Zia wants to push the country beyond the constitutional limits and
create anarchy and violence in the country. Her agenda was not election but an unconstitutional set-up. Inu said that the national responsibility of the democratic political
forces of the country was to organize an election in due time. Neither war criminals nor fire-arsonists could be sanctified in the name of democracy or polls. Mentioning that the deceased leader Zafar Sajjad Khichchu had throughout his life fought for the poor and toiling masses. He appreciated Khichchu's political integrity and courage, which should be evaluated. Central and city leaders of the organisation spoke on the occasion. Joint
Secretary of JSD's city unit Nurul Akhter presided over the event.

Bangladesh Livestock Society  

A training workshop on 'Small Scale Farming of Guineafowels and Turkey in  Bangladesh: A Tool for Poverty Reduction' organised by Bangladesh Livestock Society (BLS) was held in Meherchandi area under Motihar Police Station in Rajshahi on Saturday. In the workshop poultry scientists and experts urged the women farmers to nurture turkey birds for improving their living and livelihood condition. Terming the turkey birds (guineafowels) farming more profitable and cost-effective, they suggested the farmers to use modern technologies during farming of those commercially. Substantial and sustainable farming of the birds can be the vital means of poverty reduction with ensuring the supply of safe and quality poultry meat and eggs, they said.  More than 45 women farmers joined the training workshop. Speakers said the meat of
turkey birds contain very low-fat, so it is good for health. The function was addressed, among others, by Prof Dr. Shubash Chandra Das of the Department of Poultry Science under Faculty of Animal Husbandry of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, Dr. Riazul Islam, Lecturer of Ganoswasthya University and General Secretary of the society Dr Hemayetul Islam. President of the organisation Prof Dr.  Md. Jalal Uddin Sarder presided over the programme.
