Govt to provide help for Agri sector

The Ministry of Agriculture will provide necessary inputs, including seeds and non-urea fertilizer to some 5,41,201 small and marginal farmers free of cost for cultivating 10 kinds of crops on one bigha of land in the upcoming Kharif-1, 2 and Robi season in 2017-18.
The government has allocated Taka 175.77 crore for compensating about 11,64,580 flood-hit farmers across the country.
Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury formally disclosed it while addressing a press briefing at her Ministry's conference room in the capital on Sunday.
Of the allotment, Taka 117 crore would be spent for six lakh flood-affected farmers in haor areas under rehabilitation programme while rest of the amount Taka 58.77 crore would be spent for providing agricultural inputs to 5,41,201 farmers so that a farmer can cultivate  10 kinds of crops at least on one bigha of land.
Under the programme, the farmers will get necessary seed and fertilizer for cultivating wheat, maize, mustard, bean, khesari lentil, summer season Mug, sesame, black gram, peanut, and BT-Brinjal on a total of 72,306 hectares of land across the country.
For one bigha land, some 87,250 farmers will get seed and fertilizer worth of Taka 14.35 crore for cultivating wheat, 1,40,150 farmers will get Taka 18.24 crore for cultivating maize, 2,0,9900 farmers will get Taka 16.27 crore for mustard cultivation, 39,900 farmers will get Taka 3.98 crore for summer mung, 3,000 farmers will get Taka 28.17 lakh for bean, 7,200 farmers will get Taka 1.08 crore for peanut, 22,500 farmers will get 1.75 crore for sesame cultivation, 20,300 farmers will get Taka 1.70 crore for black gram cultivation, 9,000 farmers will get Taka 92.11 lakh for Khesari lentil cultivation and 2,001 farmers will get Taka 16.30 lakh for Bt-Brinjal cultivation.
Apart from this, the government has also allocated Taka 117 crore for boro cultivation in the haor areas-where some six lakh flood-hit small and marginal farmers will get necessary seed and non-urea fertilizer for cultivating Boro on a bigha of land under the agriculture rehabilitation programme.
Implementation of the programme in the six haor areas would begin after the recession of the flood water, Matia added.
Agriculture Secretary Mohammad Mainuddin Abdullah, Director General of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE)   
Golam Maruf, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) Chairman Nasiruzzaman and Principal Information Officer (PIO) of the Press Information Department (PID) Kamrunnahar were present in the press briefing.
