Staff Reporter :
Enraged locals set fire to a vehicle following the death of a fifth grader school student in a road crash on the Kazipara-Shewrapara road in the capital on Tuesday.
The 12-year old Taslim Alam Trisha died on the spot after being run over by a speeding bus of Tetulia Paribahan around 12:30pm. Her mother has also been taken to a local hospital in a critical condition.
Trisha was a student of Mirpur Ideal Girls School and College at Mirpur Section-10, police said.
She died after hit by a bus near Lighteye Specialised and Diagnostic Centre on the Rokeya Sarani, said Kafrul Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sikder Mohammad Shameem.
Locals rushed her to Lighteye Specialised and Diagnostic Centre where doctors declared her dead, he said.
Her death triggered a mass protest in the area, the police official said.
Vehicular movement on the busy road came to halt after angry locals blocked the Agargoan-Mirpur Road and set fire to the bus that hit Trisha., the OC said.
Two units of fire fighters rushed to the scene to douse the fire, said Duty Officer Shafiqul Islam of Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Ashrafuzzaman, a witness, said that the accident took place in the area when an Agargaon bound bus of Tetulia Paribahan from Mirpur 10 slammed the schoolgirl when she was crossing the road, leaving her dead on the spot.
The agitated locals set fire to the bus, halting vehicular movement on the road, he said.
