Eskayef's Rohingya Relief Operation

Prof. M Zahidul Haque :
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina while recently visiting the Rohingya refugee camp in Cox's Bazar expressed her firm determination to help the Rohingyas on humanitarian ground saying- "If we can feed 160 million people, we can feed 7,00,000 more".  The Bangladesh Government with its limited resources is trying its best to help these distressed Rakhine people (Rohingyas). Bangladeshis from all walks of life have come forward in aid of the Rohingya refugees. The international community is also extending humanitarian aids to ensuring food supply, temporary shelter and healthcare facilities for the helpless Rohingyas.
Meanwhile, with many other organizations, the Eskayef Pharmaceuticals limited (Bangladesh) also participated in the aid operation for the Rohingyas. After 2 weeks of fundraising in the Marketing office of Eskayef Pharmaceuticals limited, few marketing employees of the company went to Ukhiya along with clothes, dry food and medicines, on September 08,  2017.The sufferings of the refugees residing on the roadside and the hilltops was beyond explanation. They were found to living with only a sheet of polythene to fend off the heat and rain.
As previously set, the relief was distributed among a group of 300-400 refugees, mostly children and women in front of a local Mosque at Ukhiya. The relief material included dry food, essential medicines, clothes for all ages, some money as well as hard polyester for tents. The percentage was indeed very low compared to the overwhelming number of refugees, but it was still an effort nonetheless! It is gathered that the Eskayef Pharma is continuing its medicine supply program to Rohinga camps.
It may be mentioned here that an officer of the Eskayef Marketing Division Ms. Sadaf Nasir and her aunt Ms. Jesmin Ara Haq personally took part in Eskayef relief operation by help collecting old clothes and other essentials from friends and relatives.
Now the Rohingya issue is not only an issue of Bangladesh but it is now an international matter of great concern. Tens of thousands of Rohingya refugees forced to flee their homes having lost everything. With great difficulty, fear and risk more than 5 lakh Rohingyas managed to reach Bangladesh escaping Myanmar Army's brutality. As the Rohingya problem has been created by Myanmar, it is now the responsibility of the Myanmar government to resolve the issue. At the same time, the international community including the United Nations must intensify the pressure upon Myanmar to take back their Rohingya citizens with honor and dignity.
