Miscreants hurled petrol bombs on two empty parked buses while the motorcade of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia coming from Chittagong was crossing Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Mohipal in Feni district on Tuesday.
Just within seconds, the buses were caught in fire. Later, the Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel rushed to the spot and doused the flame. However, no causality was reported.
The law enforcers picked up six persons, including drivers of the buses, on suspicion of involvement with the incident. Police were taking preparations to file a case with the Feni Sadar police station in this regard till the time of filing this report at 8:00pm yesterday.
When contacted, Superintendent of Police in Feni  Jahangir Alam Sarkar told The New Nation last night mover phone, "Of the six arrestees, police highly suspected one person who was caught near the spot  just after the incident. All of them are now going under interrogation."
The Feni SP said, "The incident took place at 4:45 pm.It is not clear whether it was petrol bomb or not. But we're sure that some inflammable objects were thrown on the buses."
The buses-one Chouddagram Transport and another one Jamuna Service-were parked on the wrong side near the road divider opposite to  Mohipal Filling Station. Usually, the bus of Jamuna Service parks at Feni Circuit House crossing regularly, the SP said.
"The owner of the Jamuna Service named Md Milon alias Hatu Milon is a leader of BNP-backed Sramik Dal. We're investigating why the bus of Jamuna Service was parked at an unusual place," the SP added.
On the other hand, BNP Press Wing official Shamsuddin  Didar, who was in the motorcade, said, "Petrol bombs were hurled targeting our cars."
BNP leaders said Khaleda Zia along with her motorcade was heading towards Dhaka after completion of her four-day visit at Rohingya camps where she distributed relief materials among the Rohingyas.
Earlier on Saturday, the miscreants attacked the fleet of cars carrying Khaleda Zia, her party leaders and activists in Feni while it was heading towards Chittagong as a part of her next day's planned visit to Cox's Bazar to see the condition of displaced Rohingyas.
The motorcade came under attack at Mohammad Ali Bazar near Feni district town where several vehicles of media houses, including Channel I, DBC tv, Ekattor tv and Baishakhi tv channels were also vandalized.  The unruly persons beat several journalists and BNP activists.
No one was arrested till the date in connection with Saturday's attack.
