Staff Reporter :
Traffic anomalies created on Sunday partly due to the meeting of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) crippled city life to some extent.
BNP organised a public meeting at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan in the city on the occasion of the National Revolution and Solidarity Day of November 7.
Shortage of transports, which is almost regular phenomenon, trapped city residents throughout the day.
Police were seen stopping buses in the city entry points for conducting search in the greater interests.
Meanwhile, there was a lot of enthusiasm among the BNP activists due to the meeting. The Suhrawardy Udyan became filled with human population before noon. BNP activists entered the Udyan with processions through Shahbagh, Kakrail, TSC, Matsya Bhaban Square, Doyel Square and Palashi areas. As a result, the traffic movement on those roads were slow and produced heavy traffic gridlock from the afternoon of Sunday.
Since the BNP leaders and activists brought out  processions in the streets, heavy traffic gridlocks at Farmgate, Mohakhali, Sangsad Bhaban, Karwan Bazar, Shahbagh, Science Laboratory, Jatrabari, Gulistan, Kakrail and other areas of the city from Sunday afternoon was acute.
On the other hand, in the morning, shortage of public transports were noticable on the roads which forced people to walk to their destination. Women and children suffered most due to lack of public transportation. There were lack of public transports in the entry points of the city. Thousands of passengers were found waiting in the areas like Sanir Akhra, Kazla Bus Stand, Jatrabari, Sayedabad, Demra, Savar, Mohakhali and other entry points of the city. Passengers expressed
Allegation is there that public transports on different routes were forced not to operate due to meeting of BNP.
Whenever there is a meeting of any political party at the Suhrawardy Udyan, residents suffer from heavy traffic congestions in the city.
