More funds key to development of women's football

The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) women wing committee's chairman Mahfuza Akter Kiron emphasized on more financial support to carry on success of eve soccer teams.
The U-15 girls' team came into limelight by making the nation proud as they emerged unbeaten champions in the recently concluded SAFF U-15 Championship beating title aspirants India by a solitary goal created a history in Bangladesh women's football.
Kiron thinks that BFF and our government in a harmony together can be a big step for the development of country's women's football.
Talking to BSS Kiron said the BFF spend Taka three crore every year for the purpose of training and others expenses of the U-15 and U-16 girls' teams. To meet the expenditure of the two teams BFF get some fund from FIFA while BFF president Kazi M Salahuddin personally managed the remaining amount.
In this situation, BFF face many problems to carry the expenses of the two teams. If the government comes forward with financial support, the requirements of the eve football teams will be fulfilled properly and they would be able to bring more laurels for the country," said Kiron.
She said we keep the girls in training throughout the year and not only that BFF looks after their training, they have to ensure their education and medical treatment which needs a lot of money to carry all the expense.
Kiron, who is also member of FIFA, said they are only getting infrastructures supports from the government but financial support is cry of the need to take the eve football further ahead.
She said: "We have been undergoing many problems including lack of gymnasium and shortage of stadium. The girls' team has no extra gymnasium which is very essential for them to keep their fitness level up to compete in the different international level. We are also facing shortage of stadium."
Usually the eve team's tournaments are organised at Bangabandhu National Stadium which remain busy throughout the year with numerous football competitions, tournaments and other federation's games.
So we need at least two extra stadiums for women booters in Dhaka so that they can host the women's football competition without any hindrance, Kiron added.
But, despite the all odds all the men's and women's football tournaments are rolling on the ground round on the regular basis. Kiron added it would not be wrong to give full credit to BFF president Kazi M Salahuddin for his relentless effort to keep the country's football busy.
Kiron said proposals have been sent many times to the concerned ministries seeking financial aid for the women's football but so far they are yet to get any response from the other end.
"I had a talk with the State Minister for Youth and Sports, Dr Biren Sikder and he has assured us to build a 'Krira Polli' to meet the women team's accommodation and training facility and in this purpose the Ministry is looking for a suitable land in Gulshan.
Kiron also thanked the government on behalf of BFF boss president Kazi M Salahuddin for their untiring efforts to organize the nationwide prestigious Bangamata Football Tournament. She added this tournament has created awareness among eves regarding taking football as regular sports.
She said they could have made the best use of this tournament by grooming the girls' if the tournament could have been arranged splitting into each seven divisions. This would have allowed more participation of women booters in great numbers and also help to make the women football meets more popular.
Asked whether they have any special plan with the U-15 girls' team, the winners' of the SAFF U-15 Championship, Kiron said they have certainly some plans surrounding the team as their next target is to take part in the AFC U-19 championship which will be held in October. If the team able to achieve positive result from the tournament, then the team would get chance to take part in the U-20 World Cup Qualifiers.
The darling booters who made the country proud are now on well deserved leave and are expected to join the camp on January 10.
She said they have been grooming the members of the current U-15 girls' team since 2012 by providing training and making them busy by organising different competitions round the year.
Meanwhile, country's eve football is going to pass busy time taking a lot of national and international competitions in the coming months.
The senior women's team will take part in the Asian Games in August-September in Indonesia. But it was not yet confirmed whether the men's team would take part in the Asian Games or not.
The Under-15 girls' team will take part in the women's four-nation invitational football tournament in Hong Kong.
The senior team will tour to Thailand in May to participate senior AFC Footstall tournament. The SAFF U-18 will be held this year though the date of the tournament yet to be finalized.
There are also some local tournaments for the eve teams this year as the JFA Cup U-14 will be held in April. The Club League and U-19 senior national championship will also scheduled to be held this year though the dates of these competition yet to finalize.
