Seminar on Denim sector at BUBT

Department of Textile Engineering of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) organized a seminar on "Prospects of Denim Sector in Bangladesh" at the Hall Room of the University Permanent Campus, Rupnagar, Mirpur in the capital recently.
AFM Sarwar Kamal, Chairman, BUBT Trust was the chief guest while Prof Md. Abu Saleh, Vice Chancellor, BUBT, presided over the seminar.
The keynote speaker was Mohammad Jamal Abdun Naser, Director, Shasha Denims Ltd, Prof Dr Engr Ayub Nabi Khan, Pro Vice Chancellor, BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT), Prof Md. Enayet Hossain Miah Treasurer, BUBT and Prof Mian Lutfar Rahman, Proctor, BUBT were present as special guests. The program was coordinated by Dr Mohammed Rubaiyat Chowdhury, Professor and Chairman, Department of Textile Engineering, BUBT and Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences, BUBT.
Mohammad Jamal Abdun Naser highlighted the challenges and prospects of Denim Sector in Bangladesh in an illustrative presentation.  He emphasized on innovation rather than copying from abroad in Denim and textile engineering sector. He also emphasized on industrial sustainability to attract foreign buyers. He said, "Though we have some world class factories, After Rana Plaza Tragedy, Bangladesh RMG sector is now in a vulnerable condition with the negative value. To overcome this situation, we need to focus on innovative technology and sustainability". He informed "Every day, 7 million pairs of jeans are made around the world. In Bangladesh, we have already 30 Denim factories and 6 are in the pipeline. So, more jobs will be created here for the right people who have passion and academic knowledge of Textile Engineering especially in Denim"  
Prof Dr Engr Ayub Nabi Khan said, "Bangladesh Denim has a good future, but we have lack of expertise in our industry" He advised students to be the best engineer to fight globally in this sector.
He mentioned, "We need to make our factories safe for workers to regain the GSP facility in the United States, for this privilege we should fulfill their conditions".
AFM Sarwar Kamal, Chairman, BUBT Trust, said, "There is a wider gap in Denim sector, if BUBT students can be prepared as the best, they can fulfill the gap and can be the leader in this particular section". Prof. Md. Abu Saleh, Vice Chancellor of BUBT said, "We will create an exhibition Room to show the new ideas and products created by BUBT Textile Engineering students. Textile Engineering Department of BUBT has responsibility to play the role in developing the textile and Denim sector in Bangladesh."
Guests visited the Room of Textile Works and ideas created by the students under Merchandising Unit of Department of Textile Engineering, BUBT and Awards were given to the best performers.
Deans of various faculties, Registrar of BUBT, Controller of Examinations, Director, CGO, Chairmen of all Departments, Faculty members, Officials and a large number of students of BUBT were present in the event.
