Refugee & Migratory Movements Research Unit
Speakers at a workshop called for providing training among the intending female migrant workers to protect their rights abroad and reduce violence on them. They said this on the ninth instant while addressing the national advocacy workshop on "Fair and Ethical Recruitment Practice of Female Migrant's Worker" held at a city hotel.Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit (RMMRU) arranged the workshop with the assistance of WIF Project, International Labour Organization (ILO).  In the programme the speakers said most of the migrant female workers contribute more than the male ones in their work places abroad. But, women workers have to face manifold problems there including wage discrimination, sexual harassment, threat and intimidation.
Migrant women workers are often denied their basic protections, personal security, guarantees, healthcare facilities and education for their children, the participants said.
The function was addressed, among others, by Full Time Member of National Human Rights Commission Bangladesh Nazrul Islam, Senior Research Fellow of RMMRU and Associate Professor of International Relations Department of Dhaka University Dr ASM Ali Ashraf and INCIDIN Bangladesh Policy Analyst Advocate Rafiqul Islam Khan Alam.
Call to work to avoid unfairpractices in examinations

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid  
urged all the officials concerned, including teachers, to sincerely perform
their duties aiming to check any unfair practices in the upcoming Secondary
School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations.
He came up with the call recently while addressing a meeting of National Monitoring
Committee on the upcoming 'Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent
examinations' held at the Education Ministry.
Nahid said all necessary preparations have been taken to hold the SSC and
equivalent examinations peacefully, a handout said.
"We've strengthened monitoring and security measures to check any unfair
practices, including question paper leakage, during the upcoming SSC exams,"
the Education Minister said.
Secretary of Secondary and Higher Secondary Division Md Sohrab Hossain,
Secretary of Technical and Madrasha Division Md Alamgir and Director General
of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Prof Md Mahabubur
Rahman were, among others, present at the meeting.
