A heroic effort from Mominul Haque and Liton Kumar Das powered Bangladesh to make a draw with Sri Lanka on the fifth and final day of the first Test at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Sunday. Mominul knocked a patient 105. His 174-ball innings was studded with five fours and two sixes. It was Mominul's sixth Test century.
Mominul is the first Bangladesh batsman,
who scored century in each innings in a Test. He made 176 in the first innings. Mominul was adjudged the Man of the Match for his consistent batting performance. Liton Kumar Das hit a marvellous 94. He was a victim of nervous nineties. He was deprived from a ton just six runs. Liton hit 11 boundaries in his 182-ball innings. It was Liton's third Test half century.
Electing to bat first, Bangladesh piled up a mammoth total of 513 in the first innings on the second day (Thursday).
Sri Lanka declared their first innings making a massive 713 runs for the loss of nine wickets on the fourth day (Saturday).
Later, Bangladesh scored 307 for the loss of five wickets in the second innings before the captains of two teams were agreed to draw above one hour of the end of the final day play.
Bangladesh scored 81 for the loss of three wickets in the second innings before the bails were drawn for the fourth of day.
Mominul Haque resumed his second innings with the over-night score of 18.
Mominul Haque and Liton Kumar Das contributed together 180 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Mominul was caught at the first slip by Dimuth Karunaratne off Dhananjaya de Silva when Bangladesh's score was 261 for the loss of four wickets.
After Mominul's dismissal, Liton was caught at the mid-off by Dilruwan Perera off Rangana Herath when the hosts' total was 279 for the loss of five wickets.
After Liton's departure, Mahmudullah Riyad and Mosaddek Hossain added together 28 runs in the unbroken sixth wickets stand.
Riyad remained unbeaten with 28. He hit three fours in his 65-ball innings.
Mosaddek Hossain remained unbeaten with 8.
Rangana Herath and Dhananjaya de Silva of Sri Lanka were the day's successful bowlers.
Herath got two wickets at the cost of 80 runs, while Dhananjaya got one wicket for 41 runs.
