Faridpur declared end of Pakistani rule on this day

Freedom fighter and former Member of Parliament Shah Muhammad Abu Zafar hoisted the first independent Bangladeshis flag on this day (March 10) in 1971 in Faridpur.
The then Vice-President (VP) of Faridpur Rajendra College Central Students Union and General Secretary of Faridpur district unit Chhatra League, Shah Zafar also declared the ending of Pakistani rules on Faridpur administration on the day.
As per the central directions Faridpur districts Chhatra League leaders formed 'Shadhin Bangla Chhatra Sangram Parishad' on March 1, to organize independence movement in the district.
District Chhatra League President Syed Kabirul Alam Mao, General Secretary Shah Muhammad Abu Zafar and senior leader Salahuddin Ahmed were the member of the Parishad.
As part of scheduled programme, Shadhin Bangla Chhatra Sangram Parishad' organized a public rally in 'Ambika Maidan' in the town on March 10.
Chhatra Sangram Parishad leaders and former MP's Advoacate Shamsuddin Mollah, Imam Uddin Ahmed, Advoacate Syed Haidar Hossain and Advoacate Mosharraf Hossain, among others, were given speech in the public meeting.
Now BNP Central Executive Committee Member and former MP Shah Zafar presided over the meeting.
Shah Zafar said, the then 'Shadhin Bangla Chhatra Sangram Parishod' declared ending of Pakistani rules in Faridpur from the day.
"It was unforgettable event. Huge numbers of people joined and chanted slogans favoruing independency. I announced that each public administrative official will avoid Pakistani rules. All of them must to be followed Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib's directions from the day," Shah Zafar told The New Nation recently.
He recalled the events of the day.
He firstly hoisted Bangladeshi flag in the maidan.
Then they went and turned down and burned Pakistani flags and hoisted from DC and SP offices after proposing by Shah Zafar.
But they became victims of Army attack after trying to turn down Pakistani flag from Circuit house where Army was stayed.
Before the incident, the Chhatra Sangram Parishad leaders renamed 'Zinnah Avenue' after 'Mujib Sarak,' 'Azam Market' as 'Titumir Bazar,' from the Ambika Maidan's public rally.
