UNB, Faridpur :
At least 40 people were injured in a clash between two factions of Awami League (AL) in Miargatti village of Saltha upazila here on Saturday.
Several houses of both groups were vandalised during the incident, police, quoting locals, said, adding that the injured were admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
There was a longstanding conflict between Gatti union AL General Secretary Wadud Matabbar and Joint General Secretary Nuru Matabbar over establishing supremacy in the area.
On Saturday morning, a clash erupted between the supporters of two parties in the area. At the time, both sides got involved in clashes with local weapons that lasted for around three hours.
Later, police rushed to the spot and fired at least 18 rounds of blank shots to bring the situation under control, said Delwar Hossain Khan, officer-in-charge of Slatha Police Station.
Additional forces were deployed in the area to avoid further trouble, he added.
