Bangladesh confirmed their final berth of the Nidahas Trophy Tri-Nation Twenty20 Cricket Series beating Sri Lanka by two wickets in their last Robin League match at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Friday.
Chasing Sri Lanka's total of 159 for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs, the Tigers reached the winning spot making 160 for the loss of eight wickets when they had just one ball to spare.
Bangladesh made a sorrow start as they lost opener Liton Das (0) and one-down Sabbir Rahman (13) when the tourists' total was 33 for the loss of two wickets.
Then Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim put on together 64 runs in the third wicket stand before Mushfiqur Rahim was caught at the cover by Thisara Perera off Amila Aponso when Bangladesh's score was 97 for the loss of three wickets.
After Mushfiq's dismissal, Tamim Iqbal was caught by wicketkeeper Kusal Perera off Danushka Gunathilaka when the visitors' total was 105 for the loss of four wickets.
Tamim Iqbal hit exact 50. His 42-ball innings was ornamented with four fours and two sixes.
Mushfiqur Rahim made 28 from 25 balls featuring two fours.
Later, Soumya Sarkar was caught behind by wicketkeeper Kusal Perera off Jeevan Mendis when Bangladesh's score was 109 for the loss of five wickets.
Later, Mahmudullah Riyad played the key role to bring his team in the final.
Riyad remained unbeaten with 43. His 18-ball innings saw three fours and two
sixes. Riyad was adjudged the Man of the Match for his match-winning ininnings.
Akila Dananjaya was the most successful bowler of Sri Lanka. He bagged a couple of wickets at the cost of 37 runs.
Earlier, Sri Lanka faced a disaster as they lost their five wickets for 41 runs.
Bangladesh bowlers totally dominated over the top order and middle order batsmen of the islanders.
Later, Kusal Perera and Thisara Perera repaired the damage adding together 97 runs for the sixth wicket partnership before Kusal Perera was caught at the deep midwicket by Mehedi Hasan Miraz off Soumya Sarkar when Sri Lanka's total was 138 for the loss of six wickets.
Then Thisara Perera was caught at the cover by Tamim Iqbal off Rubel Hossain when the hosts' score was154 for the loss of seven wickets.
Kusal Perera hit a terrific 61. His 40-ball innings was laced with seven fours and a sixer.
Thisara Perera hit a captain's knock of 58. His 37-ball innings saw three sixes and three fours.
Mustafizur Rahman captured two wickets at the cost of 39 runs.
Shakib Al Hasan, Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Soumya Sarkar and Rubel Hossain took one wicket each for nine, 16, 21 and 41 runs respectively.
