Sports Reporter :
Shooter Shakil Ahmed earned silver for Bangladesh in the Men's 50 metre Pistol of the 21st Commonwealth Games at the Belmont Shooting Centre in Brisbane, Australia on Wednesday. He made 220.5 score to bag second silver medal for Bangladesh. Earlier, shooter Abdullah Hel Baki clinched the first silver for Bangladesh in the ongoing Commonwealth Games on April 8. Baki bagged silver in the Men's 10 Metre Air Rifle event.
Shakil Ahmed moved to the final after securing fourth position in the selection round.
He fought against Daniel Repacholi of Australia to earn gold. Daniel won the gold medal scoring 227.2. Om Mitharval of India collected bronze medal scoring 201.1.
Shakil Ahmed won gold medal in the Free Pistol event of the South Asian Games at Guwahati in India in 2016.
Bangladesh gained success by shooter Shakil Ahmed in Pistol event. The bullet of Pistol is costlier than Rifle. So, shooters of Bangladesh usually do not practice with Pistol. But this year Bangladesh Shooting Federation and Bangladesh Army provided enough bullets of Pistols for the shooters. Thus, Bangladesh earned success in the ongoing Commonwealth Games.
Earlier, Atiqur Rahman and Abdus Sattar Nini gained gold medal in the Men's 10 metre Air Pistol of the Commonwealth Games at Auckland in New Zealand in 1990.
After earning silver, Shakil Ahmed of Bangladesh Army said, " I feel very good. I took a good preparation in Bangladesh. I tried to score my best points and I did it. Thus, I earned a good result."
