133 union parishads brought under optical fiber connectivity

A total of 133 union parishads in six districts have been connected through optical fiber cables network under the Info Sarker-III phase.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister Sajeeb Wazed Joy inaugurated the optical fiber connectivity to the unions and exchanged views with the beneficiaries of the digital service through video conferencing at a function in the ICT Division here on Wednesday.
The six connected districts are Chuadanga, Munshiganj, Kushtia, Jhalakathi, Jhenaidah and Gopalganj.
Addressing the function through video conferencing, Sajeeb Wazed Joy said, "I am glad to know that the rural people are now getting the benefit of the digital service. I hope all the union parishads of the country will be brought under the optical fiber cables network in near future".
He thanked all the officials involved in the implementation of the project Info Sarker-III phase for performing their duties sincerely.
Earlier, he also inaugurated a forensic lab at the Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA) Office facilitated with modern software for analyzing network, including laptops, computers and mobile phones.
The lab has been set up under the project of 'Improving Quality of PKI System and Increasing Capacity of CCA Office', capable of detecting cyber crime and criminals.
Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar, State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak, ICT Division Secretary Subir Kishore Choudhury, Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) Executive Director Parthapratim Deb and Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA) Abul Mansur Mohammad Sharf Uddin were present in the function, among others.
According to the ICT Division, a total of 2600 union parishads will be connected through the optical fiber cables under the Info Sarker-III phase being implemented by Bangladesh Computer Council and the project is being funded by Bangladesh government and China government.
Earlier, the internet connection was given to district level under the Bangla GovNet project and it was expanded up to upazila level under the Info Sarker-II phase, the source said.
A total of 1200 union parishads have been connected through optical fiber cable network by the Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) while measures have been taken to bring other 772 union parishads under the network by this year, the sources added.
