Old horse Abdur Razzak weaved his web to snare five North Zone scalp as North Zone were bundled out for a meager 187 on the first day of the first innings against Prime Bank South Zone n the sixth and last round of Bangladesh Cricket League held on Tuesday at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna.
Mashrafe Mortaza created early inroad in the North Zone innings sending back opener Junaid Siddique for 7 while the other batsman Mizamnur Rahman also did not last long as he fell to Saqlain Sajib for 22.
Saqlain then scalped the wicket of Farhad Hossain (12), leaving North Zone for 3 for 71, after they were asked to bat first by South Zone skipper Nurul Hasan.
The stage was left for left arm spinner Abdur Razzak who joined the party taking wickets of skipper Jahurul Islam, Dhiman Ghosh, Ariful Haque, Taijul Islam and completed his five wicket's taking North Zone's last wicket of Shafiul Islam.
The highlights of North Zone dilapidated innings were one down Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Sohrawardi Shuvo's responsible half centuries.
Shanto played a gritty 50-run off 120-ball laced with six boundaries before he was the victim of Rabbi's delivery while Shuvo composed an unbeaten knock of 59, but hardly got any support from the other end to further stretch his innings as South Zone bowlers picked up wickets at regular intervals. Shuvo hit eight boundaries during his 84-ball stay on the crease.
Apart from Abdur Razzak's five wickets for 53 runs, Saqlain Sajib bagged two wickets conceding 20 runs.
In reply, South Zone started their first innings in a flurry in the afternoon and scored a handsome 115 for 1 at stumps with Anamul Haque with 52 and Imrul Kayes 51 on the crease as the stumps were drawn for the day.
Pacer Shafiul Islam took the lone South Zone's wicket of opener Soumya Sarkar (12) who was trapped leg before wicket.
Brief score:
North Zone 1st innings: - 187 for all, Shuvo 59 n.o, Shanto 50, Mizanur 22, Razzak 5/53, Sajib 2/20.
South Zone 1st innings - 115 for 1 , Anamul 52 batting, Imril 51 batting, Shafiul 1/18.
