Day-long symposium on RMG safety at BUET Campus Report A day-long symposium on "Safety in the Garment Industry, Five Years after Rana Plaza" was held on Monday (30 April, 2018) at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). The program was jointly organized by BUET-Japan Institute of Disaster Prevention and Urban Safety (BUET-JIDPUS) and Bangladesh Network for Urban Safety (BNUS) at BUET Council Building at 9:30 am. Prof Dr Saiful Islam Vice-Chancellor of BUET was present to grace the inaugural session as chair. Leoni Cuelenaere, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Bangladesh, was present as the Guest of Honor. Md. Shamsuzzaman Bhuiyan, Inspector General, Department for Inspection of Factories and Establishments (DIFE) and Brigadier General Ali Ahmed Khan, Director General, Fire Service and Civil Defense (FSCD) were present as the special guests.

Campus Report :
Based on the theme of 'Quality Education for Global Peace and Sustainable Development', the 21st International Convention on Students Quality Control Circles-2018 (ICSQCC-2018) began on Thursday at the Ashulia permanent campus of Daffodil International University (DIU) in the capital. Bangladesh Society for Total Quality Management (BSTQM) in association with DIU organized the 4-day convention in Bangladesh. Around 1000 participants including 500 foreign students and delegates from USA, UK, India, Srilanka, Nepal, Pakistan, Mauritius and other countries took part in the convention.  
Dr Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, DIU inaugurated the convention as chief guest while David Collingwood Hutchin, Director General of World Council for Total Quality and Excellence in Education (WCTQEE) delivered the keynote presentation at the inaugural ceremony. The inaugural ceremony was also addressed by Dr Jagadish Gandhi, Chairman, WCTQEE, Dr Vineeta Kamran, Executive Director, WCTQEE, Prof Dr Yousuf M Islam, Vice Chancellor, DIU, AMM Khairul Bashar, Chairman, Bangladesh Society for Total Quality Management (BSTQM) and Prof Dr MR Kabir, Convener of ICSQCC-2018.  
Around 60 student's quality control circle case study and 13 technical papers relevant to quality education are said to be presented in the convention. Beside these, 43 teams in poster and slogan, 39 teams in colas, 29 teams in skit, 33 teams in debate, 28 teams in quality quiz and 16 teams will compete in computer programming contest. Moreover, 28 teams will compete in world parliamentary format debate in 4-day long convention.
The main objective of the convention is to create awareness about total quality management in academics and abreast the delegates about the latest development in quality improvement in academics as well as exchange information about implementation of TQM in educational institutions.  
Addressing as the chief guest Dr Md. Sabur Khan said, education is the lighthouse of our society. So if the lighthouse were not qualified, the society would not be enlightened. And if the society were not enlightened, state and world would not be enlightened. So we have to give importance on quality and standard education.  
He urged the students to be self -developed and build strong network worldwide and to increase self-confidence. 'If you can improve yourself, the country, the society as well as the whole nation will be benefited' he said.  He thanked the organizers for choosing Bangladesh and DIU to host the 21st ICSQCC 2018.
