Staff Reporter :
The 45th meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Minister (CFM) will open at Bangbandhu International Conference Center in the city on Saturday morning. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the two-day event to be attended by over 550 delegates of 52 member states out of 56.
Twenty-seven foreign ministers and 12 state ministers are expected to take part in the conference. Designated envoys will represent the remaining countries in the conference.
Diplomatic sources said, the OIC Foreign Ministers meeting is taking place in Bangladesh in the back to back visit by 15 members UN Security Council.
Sources said, Rohingya issue is now in global spotlight and would be a top agenda for discussion with a designated session on "Humanitarian Challenges in the OIC Member States with a special focus on the humanitarian situation of the Rohingyas Muslims"
Dhaka believes that the OIC Foreign Ministers meeting here will be able to mount pressure on Myanmar and the international community to find a sustainable way to resolve the Rohingya crisis.
The OIC was unable to make strong response to the Rohingya crisis until now, but its Asst Secretary General Hashim Yousuf yesterday said in Dhaka that the organization will play a vigorous role from now in collaboration with other international organizations to force Myanmar to take back the refugees now over 1.1 million in Bangladesh.
Moreover the issue of Palestine, challenges facing the Muslim Ummah like conflicts, divisions, tension and instability will be at the center of the Dhaka meeting, Foreign Minister Mahmood Ali said.
Moreover, terrorism, extremism, sectarian violence; hatred, prejudice and Islamophobia would be on the table for discussion when the Muslims all over the world are facing such problems from within and outside.
Canada is sending a delegation to be led by its Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland. Foireign Minister of Germany and Sweden were also invited, but they are not coming for their busy schedules otherwise.
The theme of this year's CFM conference is "Islamic Values for Sustainable Peace, Solidarity and Development." This is the second time that Bangladesh is hosting a CFM after holding the first in 1983.
After this meeting Bangladesh will become the chair of OIC Foreign Ministers Council  taking over the responsibility from Ivory Coast for next one year.
