Staff Reporter :
The controversial ruling Awami League's lawmaker from Cox's Bazar-4 constituency Abdur Rahman Bodi and his family members will leave for Makkah on Monday to perform Umrah.
Sources said MP Bodi is now in Dhaka and preparing to leave the country amid the government's ongoing anti-drug crackdown that claimed lives of over 120 suspected drug dealers across the country so far.
Security agencies also detained over 10,000 suspected drug peddlers during the countrywide raids since May 12.
Sources said Bodi is leaving the country sensing trouble as his name has popped up many times for his connection with the drug syndicates. The lawmaker has been accused of being a 'god father' of drug traffickers, but has not faced any action so far.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal recently said the government is looking into the allegations against MP Bodi. "There are allegations against Bodi, but there is no evidence."
A government investigation earlier revealed that the ruling party MP is controlling the principal drug entry points though Teknaf from Myanmar.
A list, prepared by the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC), earlier said MP Bodi controls the route, and many others work under him in the illegal drug trade, specially yaba.
