Staff Reporter :
The BNP on Sunday accused the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of the ruling Awami League, of manhandling the job quota reformists.
"Chhatra League has taken the responsibility of stopping the quota reform movement. Chhatra League on Saturday unleashed barbaric attack on anti-quota students," said BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in a press briefing at the party's central office in the city.
He said, those who led the movement were attacked by the BCL with sticks and flying kicks and got severely injured.
Rizvi said the present Chhatra League is not a real student organization, but hired goons of the Prime Minister .
He strongly condemned and protested the Chhatra League attack on qouta-reformists.
The BNP leader claimed that the Prime Minister had retracked her statement about  abolishment of quota system.
"When the Prime Minister had accepted the demand of reforming quota system, we called it a fun of the Prime Minister. She on that day basically played tricks with the students," Rizvi said.Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina On April 11, in the Parliament said that the quota system would be scrapped.
The BNP leader also demanded their party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia's release from jail soon because she needs treatment on urgent basis.
BNP Joint-Secretary Generals Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal and Khairul Kabir Khokon and Assistant Organising Secretary Abdus Salam Azad, among others, were present.
