Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) inaugurated its first English Language Lab in the Department of English on Saturday to develop the English language proficiency of graduate and undergraduate students of the University.
The language lab was inaugurated by Prof Md Abu Saleh, Vice Chancellor of BUBT, in the presence of Dr Gauranga Chandra Mohanta ndc, Project Director (Additional Secretary), Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP), UGC, Prof Md. Enayet Hossain Miah, Tresurer, Prof Syed Anwarul Huq, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Prof Santi Narayan Ghosh, Director, IQAC, BUBT, Prof AB Md. Badruddoza Mia, Controller of Examinations, Mohammad Shawkat Ali, Associate Professor and Chairman, Dept of English, BUBT, Mohammad Masudur Rahman, Director, Career Guidance, BUBT. On the occasion, Department of English, BUBT organized a workshop on "The Lesson Plan for BUBT Language Lab" at the University's International Conference Hall, Rupnagar in the capital. In the program, certificates among workshop attendees were distributed. A prize giving ceremony of English Club was also held.
The inauguration of language lab will allow students to have interactive sessions. It will provide equal opportunity to all the students to hear the instructor irrespective of place where they are seated. There will be less miscommunication because of direct nature of the sound transmission.
Prof Syed Anwarul Huq, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Humanities was the keynote speaker of the workshop. He said, there is a disaster in higher education sector in this country and the condition of English language teaching is not satisfactory. The language lab can help us to overcome this disaster.
Prof Santi Narayan Gosh, Director, IQAC, BUBT said, although the mother tongue is the best medium of instruction, English language is significant, because, we live in a global village.
Dr Gauranga Chandra Mohanta ndc, Project Director of HEQEP, UGC said that English Language Lab could help us tremendously to upgrade the English Learning Process in this University. He suggested teachers to care about the background of the knowledge and the script.  
Prof Md. Abu Saleh, Vice Chancellor of BUBT presided over the opening session. He said, students face some challenges to learn effectively. They cannot speak English properly.
This Lab can play a very significant role to improve the skill of the students. According to the Vice Chancellor, BUBT and World Bank funded this Lab under the supervision of ministry of education and University Grants Commission of Bangladesh.
 He said, in the lab, teacher can look after each student, which is not possible in case of the regular classroom. In a lab instructor can communicate with many students by pressing a mouse key in order to talk with students. It can help students in academic and practical life.
Prof Mian Lutfar Rahman, Proctor, BUBT was present as a special guest and Rasheda Naznin, Lecturer of English delivered the lesson plan. Faculty members, students and officials attended the program.
