Staff Reporter :
BNP Standing Committee Member Barrister Moudud Ahmed on Saturday said that the government would be forced to hold an inclusive election as his party would form a national unity in this regard.
"We will forge an all-party national unity, forcing the government to reach an understanding for holding a participatory election. And the people knew that an inclusive election is not possible without BNP's participation. So, it is a must for the government to meet us to overcome the crisis," he said while addressing a discussion at the National Press Club in the city.
Moudud said a mass upsurge is a must which will make the government fall if it does not reach a peaceful negotiation for holding inclusive national polls.
He also claimed that the party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia's release from jail will pave the way for holding participatory polls.
Bangladesh National Human Rights Parishad organised the programme.
Moudud said there is no alternative to forging a national unity. We will give proper programmes at a suitable time to oust this autocratic government.
The BNP leader also criticized irregularities of Khulna and Gazipur city corporation polls. He described the current EC as shameless and incapable of holding the next general election in a free and fair manner.
BNP Vice-Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu said that the present government would not be sustained in next December and January.
He categorically told the party men that, "You can write it that the Sheikh Hasina regime will not be sustained in coming December and January."
Dr. Muhammad Rafiqul Islam, the president of the organization, presided over the programme, while BNP Executive Committee Member Abu Naser Muhammad Rahmatullah, among others, spoke on the occasion.
