Mohammed Sadman Sakib, BUP :
'Sfuron' the term means to bloom or to unfold or to shine. The two popular clubs of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), BUP Photography society and BUP Cultural forum decided to unfold the talents of painting, photography and music of the students of the institution. As many festivals and events in BUP is common, but this time the club members thought of something doing out of the box. They decided to organize an intra-university event for the students of BUP to promote and motivate their talents of art, photography, and music. The event is called 'Sfuron'. The event is named after the theme, which is to promote or let the talents shine. Event like Sfuron is first in the history BUP. BUP photography organizes events like 'Contrast' a national level photo exhibition and BUP Cultural Forum organizes many intra and inter-cultural events. This time both of the clubs got together and created an event like Sfuron which is an intra photo and art exhibition with acoustic music night. All the members of both of the clubs worked hard to make this event successful. The photo and art exhibition was held in the lower plaza of the campus. About 400 artwork and photographs were submitted for the exhibition and only 100 were selected. Here every type of artwork was accepted, there were sketches, watercolors, poster color etc. The award had two criteria, one award was given by the selection of the judges and another was viewer's choice. It's not the end the club members made a story with those artworks. Some artworks said some untold stories of the society. The formations of the artworks were done in a way that it was telling a story.
The same thing was done with the photographs. The photography section was divided into two sections, one was for camera photography and another one was mobile photography. Like artwork photography also had two criteria judge and viewer's choice. There were different types of photographs like street, portrait, macro etc.
All the photographs were organized in the same way as the artworks. The photographs were also telling a story. The event started 26th July at 10 AM. The members of both clubs were present there. The event was open for all. The visitors were satisfied to see such well-organized event. It was a 2-day event, the first day was for exhibition and the second day was exhibition and acoustic night. The first day ended with a lot of people visiting the exhibition.
The second day 27th July was Friday. As it was holiday the numbers of visitors were more than the first day.
The number started to increase as time passed. The judges also visited the exhibition and saw the artworks and photographs. The place got crowded in the evening with the bustling of students from all the departments. The seniors from previous batches, who passed from the institution, were invited and they received the invitation and came to enjoy the event.
The visitors were waiting for the acoustic night. The acoustic night started just after the prize giving ceremony. The students of the institution participated in the event. An audition event was arranged before the event to ensure a quality event. In the musical event the participants had to use unplugged instruments.
There were no chairs to sit. The audiences had to sit on the floor to enjoy the event. It's a new trend of a musical show in BUP. The audiences enjoyed the musical event.
The general secretary of BUP Photography society Shafquat Ameen said, "Event like Sfuron is first in BUP. We were thinking of arranging an event only for the students of our institution. As art and photography exhibition are monotonous, we tried to add a bit of twist by adding a musical event.
The two clubs worked together and made the event successful. It's a new experience for the club members. The understanding between the club members has increased. It gave us a lot of new experiences. We are trying to motivate or inspire the shy artist or photographers or singers to come forward and show their talents.
We will try to organize events like this more in future." The general secretary of BUP Cultural Forum Newton Bhowmik said, "BUP Cultural forum and Photography Society jointly organized the event Sfuron. This type of intra art and photography exhibition and acoustic night has been organized for the first time. The two clubs of BUP jointly organized the event. This is a new milestone for both of the clubs.
We are able to organize such event because our seniors motivated us. If they didn't motivate us, then we won't be able to organize such event. "These types of events are needed for the students to show their talents and to motivate for spreading their creativity.
