Staff Reporter :
The Awami League and its allies will hold rallies in eight divisional cities this month with a view to increasing mass contact ahead of the upcoming national election and resisting the conspiracies to foil the election.
The decision was taken on Saturday in a meeting of the alliance at Dhanmandi office of the Awami League President Sheikh Hasina.
Secretary General of Bangladesh Jatiya Party Sheikh Shahidul Islam presided over the meeting, while organising secretaries of Awami League Ahmad Hossain and Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, General Secretary of Samyabadi Dal Dilip Barua, General Secretaries of two groups  of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal Shirin Akhter and Nazmul Haque Prodhan were present.
Mohammad Nasim, a spokesperson of the 14-party alliance and Presidium Member of Awami League , said, "We will take to the streets to hold rallies across the country and will continue until October so that no conspiracy jeopardises the general election. Then, we will engage ourselves in the election campaign after announcement of election schedule."
Referring to the opposition parties' recent attempt to forge a national unity, Nasim said, "We know the quarter very well. They are engaged in hatching a conspiracy afresh. I believe that the people are united against them and will remain alert against the vested quarter."
The main task of the 14-party alliance leaders is to ensure defeat of the killers of 1971 and 1975 in the next general election, he said.
Sheikh Shahidul Islam told the reporters that the meeting adopted resolution to remain united against the conspiracy.
"BNP and newly formed Juktafront are engineering conspiracies to foil the election, as they think that they will be benefited if the extra constitutional force comes in power," Shahidul said.
"We shall hold the divisional rallies protesting the conspiracies to foil the election," he said.
Workers Party of Bangladesh politburo member Quamrul Ahsan said that several leaders of the alliance partners were of the opinion that the issue of seat sharing should be resolved as the national election would be held in December.
In reply to the demand, Mohammad Nasim, the Presidium Member of Awami League and spokesman of the alliance, told them that the issue of seat sharing would be resolved in proper time.
