Bangladesh is going to participate at World Skills Competition 2109 at Kazan in Russia aiming at branding the country at the global forum as a skilled nation.
As part of it, the National Skill Development Council (NSDC) is organizing Rising Star Skill Competition 2018 for selecting competent competitors at eight trades.
The NSDC on Saturday organized a daylong competition for hunting talents in two trades - cooking and restaurant services at the Underprivileged Children's Educational Programs (UCEP) at Mirpur in Dhaka on Saturday.
NSDC's chief executive officer (CEO) A.B.MKhorshedAlam presided over the inaugural ceremony. A.K.M. Bari, chairman, Industry Skill Council (ISC) on Tourism and Hospitality, DrRubina Husain, secretary general of ISC and managing director of the Institute of Hotel Management & Hospitality (IHMM), Tahsinah Ahmed, CEO, UCEP, Tony Khan, President, Tony Khan Institute of Culinary (TKCi) and Hotel Management, NSDC directors RezaulKarim and Shah Alam, among others were present.
A total of 75 students from different training institutes including TKCi, IHMH, NHTTI (National Hospitality and Tourism Training Institute), BHMTI (Bangladesh Hospitality Management Training Institute), RHMTI (Regency Hospitality Management Training Institute) took part at the competition.
At the programmes, KhorshedAlam said, the selected candidates will be given world-class training for the next 11 months to enhance their skills on these trades.
Among them, two will be finally selected for participating World Skills Competition 2019, he informed adding, the rest of the participants at Rising Star Skills Competition 2018 will be engaged at national skill development programmes at all districts.
Mentioning that the country needs to develop 15 lakh world-class skill workforce every year to meet local industry needs as well as global market. Keeping this in mind, the NSDC has taken the initiative to participate the 45th competition in Russia. Though it the first time the country is attending the world skill competition, this would take the country much ahead in branding its image across the globe.
A.K.M Bari said, Bangladesh is participating at the world skill competition despite the fact that it is not yet fully equipped with all infrastructure. But our preparation for the competition will help us get equipped with all necessary facilities through which the country will gain its capability for developing world-standard skilled workforce in all trades including cooking, restaurant, tourism as well as other trades.
NSDC, under the leadership of it present CEO A.B.MKhorshedAlam has played a very dynamic and pioneering role in enabling Bangladesh take part at the World Skills Competition 2019. The country'smembership in world skill council in 2017 was possible under his prompt and bold leadership, he recalled.
Tony Khan said, with participation of the Rising Star Skills Competition 2018, the confidence level of the students has increased a lot. NSDC's move to take part at competition at Kazan in Russia is a milestone achievement for Bangladesh.
"Bangladesh for the first time is taking part at the world skill competition, and NSDC under its present CEO has arranged a national programme and we the industry people are grateful to the government, especially NSDC," he added.
