Classical music festival enchants Rangpur audience

Heart-throbbing performance of renowned musicians from home and abroad in the second classical musical festival-2018 here exceedingly enchanted audience present on Begum Rokeya University campus  on Friday  night.
The 'Sangskriti Bikash Kendra (SBK)' of Begum Rokeya University Rangpur (BRUR) organised the festival for the second consecutive time on the university ground aiming at flourishing cultural activities through nurturing the rich Bengali culture and heritage.
Former Mayor of defunct Rangpur municipality and veteran politician Mohammad Afzal formally inaugurated the festival by lighting candle at 6:30 pm.
Vice-chancellor of the university Professor Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah delivered inaugural speech warmly welcoming distinguished guests, participating artists from home and abroad and huge audience.
Coordinator of the SBK and Head of the Department of Geography and Environmental Science of the university Atiur Rahman delivered welcome speech narrating goals and objectives of the festival.
Dean of the Faculty of Arts of BRUR Professor Dr Parimal Chandra Barman, its Professors of the Department of Bengali Dr Nazmul Haque and Dr Sarifa Salowa Dina, Director of the Planning, Development and Works Division Professor Dr RM Hafizur Rahman, Controller of Examinations Professor Dr Morshed Hossain, teachers, students and officials were present.
The audience enjoyed the excellent performances of leading Indian sitar player with international repute Debajyoti Gupta Raju from Mumbai and star 'Tabla' player Bibhakor Chowdhury from New Delhi in pin drop silence. Performances of classical music artists Supriya Das (Dhaka), Asit Kumar Dey (Dhaka) and Shahina Pervin (Dhaka), 'Tabla' players Prashant Kumar Das (Dhaka) and Prashanto Bhowmick (Dhaka), 'Behala' player Mahmudul Hasan
(Dhaka), 'Sarengi' player Muhammad Matiur Rahman (Dhaka) and flute player Mritunjjoy Das (Dhaka) entertained the audience till the midnight.
In his short speech while performing with sitar, Debajyoti Gupta Raju expressed heartfelt gratitude to the audience of Rangpur for the honour they showed to him, their deep love, blessings and eagerness in enjoying his performance.
"I have travelled many countries and performed with sitar in front of huge elite audience. But, my heart will remain full of memories with extraordinary hospitality, honour and love showed to me by the audience of Rangpur," Raju added.
Talking to BSS, noted cultural personality of Rangpur Dr Mofizul Islam Mantu thanked the SBK authority of Begum Rokeya University for arranging the luminous classical music festival for the second consecutive time in the city.
Dr Mantu called upon all concerned for strengthening cultural exchange programmes in broader aspects between the two neighbouring nations for further cementing relations and bonds of friendship and brotherhood among the two country's people.
