Staff Reporter :
Jatiya Oikyafront leader and Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain said that they proposed more dialogue during the discussion with the government.
"We want a solution through discussion. We want peace and stability to prevail. If dialogue does not bring any positive result, the responsibility goes to the government. Ball is now in government's court, he told journalists at his Baily road residence after the three-hour long second round dialogue with the Awami League led 14-party alliance.
The dialogue was held at the Prime Minister's official residence at Ganobhaban from 11.00am to 2:00pm on Wednesday.
Dr Kamal said, "Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina assured us that there will be no more ghost cases against opposition leaders and activists. The opposition now can hold meetings and rallies without any obstacle. No police harassment and assaults will happen."
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, "We proposed for further discussions on a limited scale and the government said the talks may continue."
When asked about is the result of today's (Wednesday) dialogue, Fakhrul told the journalists, "We placed our demands. But the consideration or make it fruitful depend on the government. It's not possible to say result in one sentence."
"We'll go to people. We'll place our demands through people," he insisted. Fakhrul mentioned that the Jatiya Oikyafront would continue its movement and hold 'road march' programme towards Rajshahi today (Thursday) as per its previous schedule. And on November 9 they will hold a rally at Rajshahi.
"We are still in movement," Fakhrul said.
Responding to another query about EC's schedule announcement, Fakhrul said, if they declare the schedule on November 8, it is also possible to reschedule.
However, Jatiya Oikyafront later postponed their November 8 road march programme towards Rajshahi but its November 9 rally will be held as usual.
Mahmudur Rahman Manna, a leader of the Oikyafront, said the second round of dialogue with PM Sheikh Hasina yielded no "solution".
Responding to reporters, he said: "The talks were not good enough to reach a solution."
Dr Kamal Hossain led the 11-member Jatiya Oikyafront in the dialogue.
Other members of the front include BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, its standing committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and Moudud Ahmed, JSD President ASM Abur Rab, Secretary Abdul Malek Ratan, Nagorik Oikya Convenver Mahmudur Rahman Manna and Oikya Prokriya leader Sultan Mohammad Mansur Ahmed.
The 14-party alliance led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the dialogue.
Other members of the alliance are AL General Secretary and Road Transport Minister Obaidul Quader, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Health Minister Mohammad Nasim, Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, AL Presidium Member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Law Minister Anisul Huq, AL Joint General Secretary Dr Dipu Moni, and AL Law Affairs Secretary SM Rezaul Karim.
Earlier on November 1, a 23-member delegation of 14-party, led by Sheikh Hasina, sat in talks at Ganobhaban with Dr Kamal Hossain-led 20-member Oikyafront team.
After the meeting, Oikyafront leaders said they placed their seven-point demand before Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina but did not find any specific solution except some good words about rallies and meetings.
On Sunday, Dr Kamal, on behalf of the Oikyafront, sent a letter to Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina seeking the second phase of small-group talks with her over the next general election.
In respond to the letter, the Prime Minister invited the Oikyafront to hold the second round of talks.
