All-around performances from Indian players resulted in a 4-1 finish for them in the ODI series against New Zealand.
The five-match ODI series between India and New Zealand have come to an end with the fifth ODI was played at Wellington. Indian stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl first.
India had three changes as MS Dhoni, Vijay Shankar and Mohammad Shami came back into the team. While New Zealand continued the same playing XI.
After elected to bat first, India had a terrible start with a severe top order collapse. That resulted in a hectic position of 18/4 for India. There on Vijay Shankar and Ambati Rayudu rebuilt the innings for India and had 98 runs partnership for the fifth wicket. Vijay Shankar missed his well-deserved maiden fifty for a silly run out.
His partner Ambati Rayudu scored a fifty but missed to convert into a three-digit score by 10 runs. Hardik Pandya played a fiery knock of 45 runs from 22 balls in the end and India were bowled out for 252. For the hosts, Matt Henry took four wickets while Trent Boult bagged three.
New Zealand were asked to chase 253 runs to win the final ODI. But they were off to a poor start as Henry Nicholls and Ross Taylor were dismissed within ten overs. Following three early wickets, Kane Williamson and Tom Latham had a fighting half-century partnership for the fourth wicket.
But Indian bowlers came back into the game again and picked the remaining wickets in regular intervals.  James Neesham was the top scorer for the hosts with 44 runs. The left-handed batsman was well settled and well on track in his fighting knock. But he was also trapped by another master class from MS Dhoni.
Finally, Kiwis were bowled out for 217 and India won the game by 35 runs. For India Yuzvendra Chahal took three wickets while Hardik Pandya and Mohammad Shami bagged two each.
