The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday interrogated BNP Standing Committee Member Barrister Moudud Ahmed at Kashimpur jail gate on charge of grabbing a government house worth Tk 300 crore at Gulshan, said ACC Public Relation Officer (PRO).
ACC Deputy Director Mohammad Harun-Ar-Rashid grilled him at noon.
Harun-Ar-Rashid obtained the court permission last week to question the BNP leader between February 2 and 6 at Jail gate. ACC filed a case against Moudud and his brother Manjur Ahmed with Gulshan Thana on December 17 under the Prevention of Corruption Act 1947.
According to the case, the Dhaka Improvement Trust, established in 1956 (now renamed as Rajuk), handed over a plot of one bigha and 14 katha located in Gulshan Housing Area to Mohammad Ehsan on December 30, 1961. Later, the land was registered against his wife's name, Inge Maria Flatz, in 1965. Both Ehsan and Flatz were Pakistani nationals.
Ehsan and Flatz left the country before the list of government abandoned houses was prepared. On January 21, 1972, the plot was included on the list of abandoned houses.
In August 1973, Moudud Ahmed prepared a fake power of attorney of Maria Flatz to grab the land and used it to gain his own interest. Since then, Moudud had been living in the house showing himself as a tenant of Maria Flatz.
When Moudud was holding different posts as minister and deputy prime minister and prime minister during 1978-1989 period, he tried to grab the house misusing his power, the case says. Later, in March 1984, he made another power of attorney of Flatz against the name of Mohsin Darbar (an unknown person). Flatz died on March 30, 1985. Then Moudud drafted a sale agreement between his brother Manjur Ahmed and Mohsin Darbar using the power of attorney of the late person. The case said that the BNP leader has been using the house since 1978 making different fake documents against his brother Manjur Ahmed's name.
As Moudud and his brother in collusion with each other captured the house, both were sued, said ACC Deputy Director Harun-Ar-Rashid.
