Dengue still on rise

The Aedes mosquito-borne dengue patients are still on the upward trend although it has spread in every district by breaking the all previous records.
The countrymen  are in  deep panic as the government daily based data showed the dengue as an epidemic situation while most of the patients remain out of the registration in hospitals and clinics.
The common people have lack of faith on the all around steps taken by the government and concerned bodies to take control on the ongoing situation of  dengue fever,    
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) report on Friday, no new deaths for dengue fever last 24 hour, but 1,687 new patients were identified  across the country while 996 in capital alone.
On Friday, DGHS claimed that there were 21,235 dengue patients identified of whom 14 were died, 6,582 were hospitalized, and 14,639 released after treatment.
Seeking unanimous,  DGHS another official sources said that the death toll around 54, including 10 in Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
At least 1108 dengue patients were identified in Dhaka division from January 1 to August 2 while 401 in Mymensingh division, 865 in Chittagong division, 606 in Khulna division, 474              
in Rajshahi division, 241 in Rangpur division, 318 in Barisal division,  and 177 in Sylhet division.  
In last 24 hour,  691 patients were admitted in different hospital across the country, according DGHS report.
From January to March, there were only 73 infections in the country. In April, there were 58 infections and two died. The number of infected patients nearly increase fourfold to 193 in May, and blew up to 1,863 in June with two more deaths.
Rita Rani Sarkar, one attendant at DMCH on Friday said, "The incidence of dengue fever is on an alarming upward spiral, no one knows for certain when fresh insecticide will arrive and when it will be tested for its effectiveness against mosquitoes."
Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) Director Brigadier General AKM Nasir Uddin has told the media that the dengue patients are being accommodated as much as possible, even in the verandas, under the stairways and in the basement.
He further said not all other hospitals have such a capacity and so it is most important to eradicate mosquitoes.
Entomologist Manzur Chowdhury said, "There are two main tasks regarding the prevention of dengue at the moment - killing mosquitoes and destroying their larvae. This is the responsibility of the two city corporations."
He said the citizens also have a responsibility in clearing out the breeding places of mosquitoes. Initiative must also be taken so that dengue doesn't spread from Dhaka to other districts. It must be ensured that buses, trains and launches are completely mosquito-free before leaving Dhaka.
Earlier on Wednesday, addressing in an event of Dhaka Medical College physicians, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said that mosquitoes had gone up 10 times in number.
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam on Friday said that the sample of insecticide for effective control of Aedes mosquito in Dhaka will be brought from abroad by a day or two.
"We will bring the sample of the insecticide ourselves from abroad by tomorrow or the day after," the DNCC mayor said this while addressing a programme in the capital's Uttara area this noon.
