Rifat Jahan :
Friendship is the essence that never fades with time. It is a relation that gets to be stronger day by day. Friendship is a type of relationship between two people who care about each other. It is a relationship of mutual affection between people. Friendship means understanding not agreement, friendship means forgiveness not forgetting, friendship means the memories last, even if contact is lost.
Human beings are social creatures and have always valued the importance of friends in their lives. To celebrate this noble feeling, it was deemed fit to have a day dedicated to friends and friendship, it is called Friendship Day.
The idea of Friendship Day was given by Joyce Hall, the founder of Hallmark Cards in the year 1930. Earlier, it was proposed to celebrate the Friendship Day on 2nd August by sending greeting cards and other items as the holiday celebrations. The idea was further promoted by the greetings card National Association during 1920s but it was not taken in a healthy sprit as it reflected the commercial gimmick to promote the greeting cards in the name of Friendship Day.
Later on in 2011, the General Assembly of the United Nations declared official International Friendship Day to be held on July 30. But other countries like Argentina and Brazil are celebrated Friendship Day on 20th July, Peru and Finland are celebrated Friendship Day on 14th February. And majority of the countries including India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, the United States are celebrated the Friendship Day on the first Sunday of August every year. This time around, Friendship Day was celebrated on August 5, 2018.
The truest friendships are the ones that make you believe in yourself again and again. Our friendships help us see the solutions to any problem and support us to be brave enough to face them. We all are human and often we make mistakes. What our friends do tell us what is right and what is wrong, they tell us when we make a mistake and patiently help us grow.
Despite our family members, we love spending our idle time with friends and friends are those who make us happy every time. We share our secrets, humor and at times information which are so enjoyable that we can sit and be with our friends all the day.
There are days when we feel like failures and are down, our friends are the ones who pick us up and motivate to move forward and take the world on with our head held high. Something that we wouldn't or couldn't have done without them.
Our friends know us the best. They know when we need them and when we don't. They know when it is okay to punch us in the face and when it is necessary to give us a hug, they just know. Our best friends always have the chance to become most ferocious enemy because they know the ins and outs of their friends.
Friends are the support system when we are facing bad times and are the happy ones to celebrate our success. The significance of friendships in anyone's life cannot be stressed enough. We just know they are the one's without whom we probably cannot spend our days. None of us will ever want to lose a true friends as that's where we find ourselves most comfortable.
