Severe cold hits Boro cultivation in Gopalganj

Boro cultivation may be hindered in the district this current season due to severe cold coupled with dense fog persisting all over the district for last several weeks.
Farmers said, they failed to protect their seedbeds from the cold even after spraying pesticide. Boro seedbeds in huge area in the district have turned yellowish. The situations has been prevailing in five upazila under Gopalganj district, farmers added.
According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Gopalganj official sources said, a total of 3,876 hectors of land have been brought under Boro seedbeds in five upazilas of Gopalganj district this current season. About 30 to 35 percent seedbeds already been affected by intense cold & dense fog, sources said.
Officials sources further said,  DAE has set a target to bring a total of 77,530 hectors of land under Boro farming in five upazila under Gopalganj district this current year.
Runu Baidya, Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer (SAAO), Durgapur union told The New Nation. the weather condition (cold weave) is no more earlier last five years back and this cold weave major affected on Boro seedbeds besides Mustered & Musure fields in this region and Boro field planting moment ongoing now this time, in this circumstances the weather condition is remain unchanged but farmers in this region a large affected from this Boro farming, SAAO added.
Parimal Sarker (60), a farmer of village Durgapur under Gopalganj Sadar Upazila in the district told The New Nation. from last compel days unlimited cold weave ongoing in our country and this cold weave hit on our seed beds (plants). As a result our seed plants becoming damaged seriously and we are taken a technique for save our seedbeds garrow by polithine paper side by side using of pesticide. On the other hand farmer in this region could not prepared fresh Boro seedbeds further due to short time, as a result Boro farming could not may be achieved target this year, Parimal added.
Ramesh Chandra Bramha, Deputy Director (DD) Agriculture, Gopalganj told The New Nation very recent time serious cold weave going on our country and it affective on public life, crops  specially Boro seedbeds as a result poor Boro farmer affected  by cold weave and they worried for their Boro cultivation this current year. If the weather condition is ongoing but Boro farmers seriously loss from this cultivation, DD added.
