Huge crowd  in Narsingdi Shilpa, Banijja Mela

A month long Shilpa and Banijja Mela marking 'Mujib Borsho', the birth centenary of the great leader that is going to the stadium ground in the town has got good response from visitors and buyers. Deputy Commissioner of Narsingdi Syeda Farhana Kawnine and Superintendent of Police Pralay Kumar Joarder BPM (BAR)PPM inaugurated the fair organized by Narsingdi Chamber of Commerce and Industries on January 12 with much enthusiasm.  President, Narsingdi Chamber of Commerce and Industries Ali Hossain Shishir presided over the inaugural function.  The fair has been designed to promote and popularize traditional and historical locally produced clothes ,handloom and cottage industrial goods including leather products ,jute-made products, design and fashion wares and other products. The organizers of the fair are happy that sales at the fair are very satisfactory as long the expected sales. Prices of locally produced Benarashi and Jamdani Sarees, Lungis, girl's three pieces, bed sheet, other cloths and other things were displayed in the fair at very reasonable prices. Tasnim Anam Riasa, a student of Dhaka University who bought a three piece at Tk 1500, said that this type of fair would popularize once and would help to lift up the economic condition of weavers and encouraging the practice and hopes of local artisans. She expressed her satisfaction over the management of the fair organize committee.
Film festival ends in Bagerhat

A three-day film festival ended  in the district on Monday evening. Thirty films, including eight full length films, 14 short films and eight animated films  screened at the festival. Bagerhat Film Society organised the festival beginning Saturday. Md Mamnunur Rashid,  Deputy Commissioner  inaugurated the event.  "We've been organising the festival since 2002 after the founding of the organisation," said Jakir Hossain, president of the society.
Biotech Projects delegation visits BARI

A four-member high-level delegation of Feed the Future (FtF) Biotech Projects (Potato & Brinjal) visited Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) on Tuesday. The members of the delegation include Dr. Ronnie Coffman, Director, IP-CALS, Cornell University, USA; Maricelis Avecedo, Projects Director, FtF Biotech Eggplant Cornell University, USA; Dr. Vijay Paranjape, Associate Director, Bt Brinjal Project, Sathguru, India and Md. Jahangir Hossain Ph.D, Country Project Director, FtF Biotech Projects (Potato & Brinjal), Bangladesh. BARI scientists and officers welcomed the delegation at the time of their arrival in the institute. BARI Director General Dr. Abul Kalam Azad also gave a welcome address at his conference room. Chief Scientific Officer of the Plant Physiology Division of BARI Dr. Dilwar Ahmed Choudhury gave brief PowerPoint presentation on the activities and achievements of BARI. BARI Director (Research) Dr. Md. Abdul Wohab, Director (Training & Communication) Dr. Md. Miaruddin, Director (Support & Services) Md. Habibur Rahman Sheikh, Director (Planning & Evaluation) Dr. Md. Nazirul Islam heads of the divisions, senior scientists, officers, among others, were present on the occasion.  Later, the delegation visited research field of biotechnology division and expressed their satisfaction by seeing the activities, advancement and achievements of BARI.
