Staff Reporter :
Confessing to his offence in the courtroom, Regent Group Chairman Shahed Karim alias Mohammad Shahed on Sunday promised that he would return all the money of people once his business reopens.
"Both Masud and I are guilty. It is better, if the remand hearing of the cases filed against me will be held after Eid. I have been on remand for last few days. I'm sick," said Shahed during his remand hearing in a Dhaka court.
He also said, "Sir, I've committed crimes. I'll return all the money once my business restarts."
After hearing, Shahed's lawyer sought bail for his client. But, the court rejected the bail prayer and put him on a 28-day remand in four fraud cases -- seven days for each case -- filed against him with Uttara Paschim (West) and Uttara Purba (East) Police stations.
Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury passed the orders after four separate investigation officers (IO) produced him before the court seeking 40-day remand in the cases, 10 day for each case.
Earlier on July 16, a Dhaka court sent Mohammad Shahed on a 10-day remand in a fraud case filed with Uttara Paschim Police Station over issuing fake Covid-19 test certificates and charging patients for the tests and treatment violating an agreement with the government.
After completing the 10-day remand, police produced him in the court on Sunday and prayed for another 40-day remand in four cases, three filed with Uttara West and
another filed with Uttara Purba Police Station.
Advocate Moniruzzaman and advocate Shah Alam who appeared in the court on behalf of Shahed opposed the remand prayers and sought bail for him.
Public prosecutor Abdullah Abu, Additional Public Prosecutor Sajjadul Haque Shihab and Assistant Public Prosecutor Azad Rahman represented the state during the hearing.
Meanwhile, Regent Group's Managing Director Masud Parvez was also produced in the court after the 10-day remand. After hearing, the court placed him on a 21-day fresh remand in three cases, 7-day for each case, filed with Uttar West and East Police Stations.
Besides, Shahed and Masud were also shown arrested in two cases, one under arms act and another under special power act, filed with Uttara West Police Station, said Abdullah Abu, Public Prosecutor. The magistrate passed the order after two IOs submitted two petitions for showing him arrested in the cases.
Shahed was arrested from Satkhira on July 15 when he was trying to leave the country while  Masud Pavez was arrested from Gazipur on July 14.
They were placed on 10-day remand on July 16.
