Staff Reporter :
AB Siddique Dipu, Protocol Officer of Haji Selim's Madina Group, has been placed on a three-day remand in a case filed over assault on a Navy officer.. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Shikder passed the remand order on Tuesday.
Victim Navy officer Lieutenant Wasif Ahmed Khan filed the case with Dhanmondi Police Station early Monday accusing Haji Selim's son Mohammad Erfan Selim, his bodyguard Mohammad Zahid, car driver Mizanur Rahman, Dipu and 2/3 unidentified persons.
Dipu, 45, number 2 FIR-listed accused, nabbed from Tangail around 3:30am, Detective Branch of Police (Ramna Division) HM Azizul Haque confirmed.
He said Dipu beat up more the Navy official than others.
In the case, Wasif alleged that he and his wife were riding on the motorcycle. Suddenly, a black Land Rover hit his motorbike near Kalabagan signal. He, subsequently, managed to regain control of his vehicle after the crash.
The Navy officer stood before the car, carrying Erfan and three others, parking his bike on the road.
The four then used abusive words and started beating Wasif. They also assaulted his wife and threatened to kill Wasif and his wife, Wasif alleged.
Later, the four left the scene leaving the car behind as people started to gather around.
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), led by executive magistrate Sarwar Alam, raided Erfan's house on Monday afternoon and seized 37 walkie talkies, five VPS sets, a pistol, a one-barrel gun, a briefcase, one handcuff, a drone and seven bottles of foreign liquor and bear.
Later at night, a mobile court sentenced Erfan Selim, a Ward Councillor, and his bodyguard Mohammad Zahid to one year imprisonment for possessing illegal arms and another six months for possessing liquor.
