Staff Reporter :
Anisul Karim, a Senior Assistant Superintendent of Barisal Metropolitan Police died from beating allegedly by the employees of 'Mind Aid Hospital' some moments after he admitted for treatment in Dhaka's Adabor on Monday.
His family members claimed that the hospital staffers beat him to death.
Anisul's father Saijuddin Ahmed filed a murder case accusing 15 people over the incident with Adabar Police Station for the murder. Police have also collected CCTV footage from the hospital of the incident.
Adabar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kazi Shahiduzzaman said, "We have the CCTV footage of the hospital. We see that the hospital employees killed him."
"Those who took the senior ASP to that room are not doctors.  The way the hospital staffers dragged him in the room and pushed him on the floor and beat ASP Anisul shows that it is a big murder, "said the Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohammad Harun-ur-Rashid at a briefing on Tuesday.
"This is a case of murder. Anisul was admitted to a government mental hospital but later shifted to the private clinic. The authorities will investigate why he was taken there" he said.
"We have arrested all the involved staff of the hospital," said Harun.
The arrestees are- Marketing Manager Arif Mahmud Joy, 35, Coordinator Redwan Sabbir, 23, kitchen chef Md Masud, 37, Pharmacist Tanvir Hasan, 18, ward boys Jobayer Hossain, 19, Tanif Molla, 20, Sanjib Chowdhury, 20, Ashim Chandra Paul, 24, Md Liton Ahmmed, 18 and Md Saiful Islam Palash, 35.
The 10 arrestees were placed on seven-day remand each. Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shahidul Islam of Dhaka passed the order after Md Faruk Mollah, inspector of Adabor Police Station, produced them before the court with 10-day remand prayer for each.
Mohammad Harun-ur-Rashid said that in the CCTV footage of the hospital, it was seen that at around 11:55 pm, police officer Anisul Karim was dragged into a room by several staff. He was thrown to the ground by six employees of the hospital.
Then, two more employees dressed in blue grabbed his leg. At that time, two employees on the side of the head were hitting him with their elbows.
Arif Mahmud, the manager of the hospital, was standing next to him. Anisul's hands were tied behind her back with a piece of blue cloth.
When Anisul was turned upside down four minutes later, his body was numb. An employee then splashed water on his face. Anisul Karim was not moving even then.
The staff then cleaned the floor of the room. Seven minutes later a woman wearing a white apron entered the room. The door of the room was closed in 11 minutes. She pumped his chest in 13 minutes.
Meanwhile, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jan-e Alam Mia said Anisul died before being brought to the Institute of Cardiology. 'Brought dead' was written in the report of the hospital.
However, the hospital authorities claimed that they tried to calm down the police official as what they said he was behaving rudely.
Harun-Ur-Rashid said Mind Aid Hospital, where Anisul Karim Shipon was murdered, was being run without any psychiatric.
The hospital was being run by the board of directors, co-ordinators, co-managers and ward boys and they do not study medicine, he added.
Besides, the hospital does not have any license from the Department of Narcotics control and legal documents, which are mandatory to run a mental hospital, said the police official.
He further said that the hospital authorities could not show any legal documents and license, which are required to run a mental hospital. It will be sealed off.
Police will also investigate why and how the ASP Shipon was transferred to this hospital from the National Institute of Mental Health and Hospital. "Whether there was involvement of any broker behind his shifting to that hospital, it will be investigated," he said.
The senior ASP was buried at Gazipur City Central Graveyard on Tuesday morning.
Earlier, his namaj-e-janaza was held ta Bhawal Rajbari ground.
Anisul Karim, appointed as a police officer in the 31st BCS, was working in Barisal Metropolitan Police recently.  Hailing from Kapasia, Gazipur, he is the father of a child. He was a 33rd batch student of the Department of Biochemistry and Biopsychology of Jahangirnagar University.
Meanwhile, a Dhaka court yesterday granted a seven-day remand for each of the ten people arrested in a case filed over the death of Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Anisul Karim Shipon at Mind Aid Hospital in the city on Monday. The Sr. ASP was allegedly assaulted by the hospital staff and he died.
Magistrate Shahidul Islam of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order on Tuesdy after police produced them in the court with 10-day remand plea in the case.
Those who were placed on remand are Mind Aid's Marketing Manager Arif Mahmud Joy, 35, Coordinator Redwan Sabbir, 23, kitchen chef Md Masud, 37, Pharmacist Tanvir Hasan, 18, Ward Boy Zobayer Hossain, 19, Tanif Molla, 20, Sanjeeb Chowdhury, 20, Ashim Chandra Pal, 24, Liton Ahmad, 18, and Saiful Islam Palash, 35.
