4 AL, 2 independent, one JP candidates win

Four Awami League, two independent and one Jatiya Party candidates were elected unofficially after the re-voting in 390 polling stations of seven constituencies on Thursday.
AL candidate and former foreign minister AH Mahmood Ali won Dinajpur-4, while another party candidate Monzurul Islam Liton Gaibandha-1, AL candidate Dr Younus Ali Sarkar Gaibandha-3, independent candidate Principal Abul Kalam Azad Gaibandha-4, another independent candidate Swapan Bhattacharya Jessore-5 and AL candidate MA Awal Laxmipur-1.
The re-voting in the polling stations of five districts was held peacefully from 8am to 4pm without any break.
In Laxmipur-1 (Ramganj), AL candidate MA Awal was unofficially declared elected after re-voting in 21 centres of the constituency.  MA Awal bagged 49,888 votes while his nearest independent (AL rebel) candidate Shafiqul Islam polled 21,790.
In Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj), AL candidate Monzurul Islam Liton was elected unofficially after the re-polling in 54 polling stations.
Liton bagged 120,805 votes while his nearest rival Jatiya Party candidate Abdul Kader Khan with 'plough' symbol got only 13,500 votes in 109 polling centres of the constituency.
In Gaibandha-3 (Palashbari-Sadullapur), AL candidate Dr Younus Ali Sarkar was declared elected unofficially after the re-voting in 80 polling stations out of 130 of the parliamentary seat.
Younus won the election with boat symbol securing 127563 votes, while his nearest rival independent candidate Khademul Islam Khudi bagged only 18204 votes. In Gaibandha-4, (Gabindaganj), independent candidate (AL rebel) Principal Abul Kalam Azad won the election with 'pineapple' symbol after the re-election in 72 polling stations out of 130 of the constituency.
Azad polled 98,546 while his nearest rival AL candidate Engineer Monwar Hossain Chowdhury got 64614 votes.
In Jessore-5 (Monirumpur), independent candidate Swapan Bhattacharya who known as AL rebel candidate was declared elected unofficially after the re-polling in 60 polling stations out of 122 of the seat.
Swapan won the election bagging 78424 votes while his nearest rival AL candidate Tipu Sultan polled 58418.
In Dinajpur-4, AL candidate and former foreign minister AH Mahmood Ali was declared elected unofficially with a big margin.
Mahmood polled 74318 while his nearest rival Bangladesh Workers' Party candidate Enamul Haque bagged only 1381 votes after the re-voting in 63 polling stations out 120 of the constituency.
In Bogra-7 (Gabtoli and Shahjahanpur), Jatiya Party candidate Altaf Ali was elected unofficially after re-voting in 46 polling centres out of 161 of the parliamentary seat.
Altaf Ali with plough symbol polled 17859 votes, while his nearest rival Jatiya Party-JP (Monju) candidate ATM Aminul Islam Sarkar Pintu with bicycle symbol got 10088 votes.
During the January-5 parliamentary elections in 147 constituencies, election to 597 polling stations were suspended across the country due to widespread violence.
But the Election Commission did not need to arrange the election in 205 stations of some constituencies where winning candidates won the polls with larger margins.
Meanwhile, the commission postponed the re-polling in two stations of Kurigram-4 following a court order.
With the election results of the seven constituencies, the AL seats in 10th national parliament rose to 236, while that of Jatiya Party to 34 and independent MPs to 15.
