Police have arrested four people on charges of beating a bus driver to death in Dhaka's Sayedabad. The news of their arrests comes several hours after transport workers announced a bus strike on Dhaka-Sylhet route for Wednesday in protest. The arrestees are Rajan Mia, 32, Rezaul Karim, 33, Sohel Ahmed, 30, and Kamrul Islam Shakil, 26.Jatrabarhi police Sub-Inspector Imranul Islam told bdnews24.com  the four were accused in a murder case lodged on Tuesday by the victim's family. The deceased, Babul Chandra Dey Shibu, 40, was a member of the organisation of Sylhet transport workers. Sylhet Road Transport Union chief Selim Ahmed Palik on Tuesday told bdnews24.com no bus would leave for Dhaka from the north-eastern district on Wednesday. The organisation announced the protest programme after several passengers beat Shibu, a Shyamoli Paribahan bus driver, to death in Dhaka's Sayedabad on Monday night. But they started beating Shibu when the bus was waiting for passengers there." Selim claimed Shakil joined the trio in assaulting the driver.Shibu's body was handed over to his family after autopsy on Tuesday and the remains were sent to Sylhet's Jaflong.
