Sheikh Arif Bulbon :
The InvisiBellas, an exhibition based on a street art
project that aims to shed light on gender-based inequality,
is being held at Bengal Art Lounge in the city’s Gulshan area now. Showcasing wall paintings and drawings, the exhibition was jointly
inaugurated by Ann B McConnell, Director of American Center and Rezwan Rahman, Chairman
of Tradexcel Graphics.
The project aims to address issues which lead to gender oppression and encourage
a community free from it, with the intention to raise
widespread awareness.
The first phase of The InvisiBellas took place in the Notun Bazar adjacent to American Embassy in Dhaka, where 15 artists painted a 100 feet wall to promote gender equality through art.
The participating artists are: Amit Ashraf, Dibarah Mahmoob, Kazi Istela Imam, Liza Hasan, Mahenaz Chowdhury, Maleena Dhrity Gomez, Manik N Ratan, Nuhash Humayun, Nuzhat Tabassum, Saiq’a S Chowdhury, Sayeef Mahmud, Syed Rashad Imam Tanmoy, Tanzia Haq
and Wasi Ahmed.
Bengal Art Lounge has taken the initiative to exhibit the
outcome of this first phase, giving a space to these artists and their works presenting
a street-art aesthetic rarely displayed in galleries.
Initiated by Dhaka Hub, Global Shapers in association with Bengal Foundation,
the project is supported by the Edward M Kennedy center for Public Service and the Arts and Tradexcel Graphics Ltd.
The exhibition will
continue till April 9. n
