Staff Reporter :
The High Court (HC) on Tuesday issued a rule upon the government to explain as to why the effective initiative should not be directed to formulate a law related to the domestic workers rights.
The High Court bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice Md Habibul Gani came up with the rule after hearing a writ petition filed by Human Rights Peace for Bangladesh.
It also issued a rule upon the government asking to explain, their ineffectiveness in implementing security of domestic workers, policies related to domestic workers rights and child
labour should not be declared illegal.
The Secretaries for Cabinet, PMO, Law, Labour, and Women and Children Affairs have been made respondent in rule.
The court also asked the respondent to explain within four weeks why the order of taking effective measure to implement law for protecting the rights of domestic aides should not be given.
Earlier on June 12, Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh filed the writ petition with the HC seeking its directive in this regard.
