Recycle waste to recycle Dhaka for a healthy life

Mohammed Sadman Sakib and Sadia Jahan Rathi :
Dhaka is the capital city of Bangladesh, which has a population of 7 million.  According to WHO the waste which is generated daily in this city is over than 4000 metric tons. There are mainly 2 types of waste, such as: medical and general. In Bangladesh, due to lack of motivation, awareness, commitment, expertise as well as money a considerable portion of wastes, 40-60%, are not properly stored, collected or disposed in the designated places for ultimate disposal. These waste products need proper waste management. It will not only be beneficial for the environment but also to the economy. Enjoying a packet of chips or too much heat out there a bottle of icy water or cold drink will do to cool you down. What do you do after that? Throw away the packet or bottle. You're may be throwing in a dustbin or on the road or elsewhere. It is causing plastic pollution and it is one of the alarming issues. In land if plastics are used then that land cannot be used for making buildings and the mineral quality of that land will be low. So, it will create a barren land. Plastic waste doesn't mean that talking about plastic bags. It means all plastic product waste.  If we can recycle the plastic waste then the environmental condition will improve.
Not only that the costing will be less. But how we will collect the plastic wastes. Because we throw them or we dump them with other waste where the cleaners sort them. The problem of sorting has a solution. The idea has been developed by European countries like Norway and so on. They just did a simple work. The products of the plastics were increased. If anyone could return the plastic then they got the extra money they paid. By this method people didn't dump the waste. They preserved it and returned the plastic wastes. The wastes were sent to the processing zone, the plastic pollution is now a rare case there. It's nothing but using human psychology to clean their wastes by themselves. By this process we won't need external manpower to sort the waste. It will be sorted and there is an assurance that they will return. In Bangladesh we can use the method and in the airport this method is applied. But there will be a question. How are we going to do this? They use machine and other methods. We can do it by a simple way. The way is if we buy a product from a shop then we will return that waste there. The city corporation or other organization will receive the waste. The calculation will be done during the purchase. Then there is a possibility of clone products. The packs or the plastic wastes will be given in a deformed shape, or the shop will pinch a hole or do something which will ensure it will need to mold again. This is how plastic wastes can be processed easily and all the people will participate in it. Then there will be some people who will throw them in water body, like as lake or pond. There is also a solution to it. There will be kayak service there. If you can fill up the basket in 1 hour with plastic wastes then the kayak service is free or the amount of waste will be calculated and reduced from the fare. Like if someone gets half basket then he will pay half fare. Like in Hatirjheel or Dhanmondi Lake, there can be a kayak service to clean the water. That's how the environment can be kept clean. The same case goes for metal products. Human waste comes after that.
Then the bio waste comes. Food waste, crop waste etc. are bio waste. The bio wastes have multipurpose usage. We can use the wastes as bio manure. It's harmless and increases the fertility of the soil. We can use it as cattle food. The wastes can be used as biomass energy. The edible oil like palm oil, soybean oil etc. can be used as alternative of diesel. If we want we can save the waste or leftover oil then give it to recycle. We will get alternative fuel through recycling.  Then in the end last comes E-waste. With the rapid development of communication and information technologies for the last few decades, the production of electrical instruments has increased. Because the electronic products are increasing as the ability of people are increasing day by day. As some companies offer exchange offer on electronic products. The actually recycle those but the number is low. If the tech companies offer that they will take the electronic product and give a discount on the basis of the current condition of that returning product or take security money during purchase then it will be easy to process. In conclusion if we recycle our waste then our city will be clean. A question in the end, would you keep your home dirty? If not, why do you keep your city messy? Your city is your home. What we need is to make a change. If we don't change now then we will not be able to gift out future generation a healthy future.
