The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) of Dhaka University (DU) celebrated its 56th founding anniversary amid festivity and fanfare recently.
With the theme, "Mass Media, Mass People and Democracy", the event began with a colourful procession which was brought out from the base of Aparajeya Bangla premises in the morning, reports BSS.
A seminar was held at the Muzaffaor Ahmed Chowdhury auditorium of the university where Professor Emeritus Dr A F Serajul Islam Chowdhury presented a keynote paper titled 'Mass Media, Social System and Liberty of Mass People'. DU Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr. Md Akhtaruzzaman addressed the function as chief guest while department chairperson Prof Kaberi Gayen presided over the function.
In his speech, Prof Serajul said mass media is largely influenced by advertisements as most newspapers are bound to publish advertisement contents to flourish their businesses.
While addressing the programme, VC Prof Akhtaruzzaman said objectivity is the key to journalism and without this journalism is impossible. Later, two websites- www.mcjedu.com an informative site of the department and www.dumcjnews.com a practical news portal, were inaugurated at the function.
